After Katrina the mayor and the police of New
Orleans went about disarming the law-abiding people of the city. They gave public safety as the reason. The only threats to public safety came from the marauders plundering the city. While Mayor Nutter and Commissioner Ramsey are not as draconian as Nagin and the New Orleans police their head and hearts are in the same place. On October 4, 2006 President Bush signed into law a bill introduced by Congressman Bobby Jindal (R-La) and Senator David Vitter (R-La) prohibiting the confiscation of guns from lawful citizens after a disaster. Major Nutter and Commissioner Ramsey have shown no respect for the state law that governs them. While they have not gone as far as a massive confiscation of guns from lawful citizens they are doing what they can to disarming the people of Philadelphia. Given the precedent of New Orleans and the penchant of Philadelphia officials for defying the law of the state it is fair for us to ask why they should be trusted with Harrisburg putting the rights of the people in their hands. |
