Default Nutter Says NRA Owes Slain Officer's Family An Apology

this guy is unbelievable; using a tragedy to get his agenda across!

Quote:
Nutter Says NRA Owes Slain Officer's Family An Apology
by KYW's Mike Dunn

Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter says the National Rifle Association -- which has sued to stop the city from enacting its own gun laws -- owes the Liczbinski family an apology.

Last month the mayor quickly signed five new gun restrictions into law, and just as quickly the NRA filed a lawsuit in court to stop enforcement of the new legislation. A temporary restraining order was issued and a hearding scheduled for May 19th.

One of those bills would have outlawed the sale and use of assault weapons, including the type used on Saturday in the murder of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski.

On Monday morning Mayor Nutter (in file photo above) said the officer's death shows, in his view, that there is no legitimate sports use for this type of weapon. And he had this message for the NRA:

"I think that they should make an immediate statement acknowledging that there is no legitimate reason for anyone to have such a weapon and should join us in supporting -- at least -- this kind of reasonable legislation. They don't have a leg to stand on, and they owe the Liczbinski family an apology for their obstructionist activity in this regard."

The NRA contends that only the state, not the city, can enact gun laws. A spokesman for the NRA was not available for comment.

Nutter also called on the remaining at-large suspect, Eric Floyd, to give himself up immediately. In Nutter's words, "It is time to face the music for what you have done."

He should be the one that apologizes. It's is isulting that he would include his Bullshit Bill in that memo.

Why is anyone surprised that this moron would attempt to make an inanimate object the seeming cause of the officers murder and not the lax and ineffective judicial system that has continually let cretins like those who murdered the officer out onto the street? I'm not surprised but it makes a great sound byte so people will continue to ignore the facts and side Nutter. It is a shame that so many people do not seem to be able to think for themselves.

ugh.... so frustrated right now

lets forget that: The PPD just stated that the killer was not allowed to possess a firearm due to his criminal history.

or all of these people had prior criminal records, including gun violations and armed robbery

So who owes who the apology???

Relating to keeping the bad guys in jail, did you guys read about some of the various states' correctional institutions thinking about releasing some 100,000 or so total inmates back into society because they think it's better that the states not have to pay to keep these guys incarcarated? (They said only non-violent and non-sexual, but all the drug traffickers and such that didn't assault anyone may get released.) They blamed their argument on the economy and rising costs...what a bunch of BS.

Probably a better written story on this somewhere, but here's a quick link:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24459394/

And here I thought there was already a law against using these weapons, or any weapon for that matter, to commit murder.

There was an article about how the one guy had at least a dozen arrests with something like 7 convictions for armed robbery and the like. Is anyone honestly surprised that this happend??

he wanted to check back into his holiday inn... when he gets bored of his stay, he just asks for parole and they let him loose to buy a weapon of any kind on the street (where laws don't apply to criminals) so when he gets bored and needs a place to stay for a little bit, he can just get caught robbing someplace again.

Is anyone really surprised?

Everyone knows what the problem is, this cretin does also. He is playing politics over the dead body of a cop that was trying to make the city better.

Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski did more to make the city better than this pimp will do in two terms slurping at the public tit.

This moron makes Street look like a sterling politician.
