Call the police, advise them that you are armed, carry the shotgun.

Step #2 is
- talk to the neighbors, especially those threatened or burgled
- home video that records
- motion lights
- digital camera to catch his face
- get a dog

Flash camera's are best because it also blinds him. Just in case he wants to confront you for taking the picture. Also if he does react to the picture with force you can use the gun.

This may be slightly off point, but it is something to consider.

You can not provoke the individual to take action against you, like entering your home, so you can defend yourself by shooting him. The law clearly covers provocation and it is not allowed.
