Need PA info!

Hi everyone,

My name is Robert Spencer. I am 17 years old and i live in Quakertown, Pa. I plan to purchase my first firearm when I turn 18. Im thinking about a short-barreled Remington 12 gauge. but that is not what i am asking about. My real question is, What age do you need to be to purchase a handgun in PA and what age can you apply for your Act 235. I am planning on becoming an Armored Truck Driver when I turn 21 and have found an opportunity to be an armed security gaurd at the local farmers market on the weekends. Any info on PA hand gun ownership is also welcome. Thanks for listening.

You need to be 21 to purchase a handgun in PA, and I am not aware of any age restrictions on ACT 235 certification. Perhaps one of our 235 schools can chime in and verifiy this.

Act 120 is 18+, but I cannot find any mention of age in act 235.

No applicant shall be accepted if the applicant is under the age of eighteen.

You need to be atleast 18 years old to take the Act 235 training. At 18 years of age you are legally allowed to own a handgun, but not purchase one. That is provided you don't have any disqualifying legal issues.

There are 2 ways for you to legally get a handgun for work before you are 21 years of age.

1. A parent purchases one and gifts it to you.
2. You are assigned a weapon from your employer.

Remember though that an Act 235 permit is not a LTCF (License To Carry Firearms). You cannot carry concealed with it. There was a farily lengthy discussion recently about Act 235 and transporting to and from work.
