Default Harrisburg city gun buy-back program

<<Article>>

Harrisburg - Harrisburg Police say a program designed to get guns off city streets was a big success. In less than two days, police gave away 15,000 dollars, the entire state grant for the buy-back program. Police began offering one-hundred dollars for every gun turned in on Saturday.

Police say many dangerous weapons were handed in during the buy-back program. "We've gotten some Tech-9's, and some high-capacity pistols," said Police Chief Charles Kellar, "and they're designed to do one thing; shoot a lot of bullets and kill a lot of people. So, they're very dangerous guns."

A 15,000 dollar state grant provided Reclaim The Streets Ministries with the money to start the gun buy-back program. Any city resident with a working handgun, rifle, or shotgun was encouraged to turn in the firearm at the Community Policing Stations in the Allison Hill and Uptown neighborhoods.

All of the turned-in firearms will be checked by police to see if they are stolen, and then destroyed.

************************************************** ***************

Now, truthfully...how many of those guns were turned in by inner-city criminals??? I would wager that no more than 1%...if that. What you probably have is people getting rid of guns which were left to them when a relative died. Rather than take them to a gun shop...they wanted the quick $100. Gee, I feel safer already!

If only I could've found some crappy guns for $20 to turn in.

I wonder if they accepted BB guns! I'd buy 150 and be first in line!

1. How will the police know if they are stolen? We all know they don't keep records of gun sale's. (/Sarcasm)

2. I wonder how many criminals where hanging around the turn in spots to offer a little more for the guns?

I wonder how many criminals were standing around the corner, offering $150 for the better weapons.

Gun Buy Programs are retarded to say the least.

Dumb people. If they REALLY wanted to get rid of their guns, and they were in good working order, any gun shop out there would've probably given them more than $100.

What a farce. It's amazing that people are so afraid of guns that they're even willing to get ripped off over them.

Yes, poor widows of men who had gun collections. Some poor soul living off cat food getting ripped off by a bleeding heart program.

I used to have a comic of a lady walking down the street getting stopped by a man and he asks if she got money for turning in her gun, she says yes and he says "Good" draws a pistol and robs her...MAN I WISH I STILL HAD THAT COMIC!!

I wonder how many evil SKS' they got in?

Now folks.. don't bash these liberals so much! Everyone knows that the ONLY people that turn their guns in are the violent criminals. They know that their guns are illegal and turn them in to be good upstanding citizens.

This program is going to stop violence not only in Harrisburg, but in the world. And will eventually feed the starving third world, and fix the hole in the O-Zone Layer.

With all the crap coming out of the mouth of the Harrisburg City Chief of Police, I wish I were a resident. At this point in time, I'd have a petition for his removal on Reed's desk so fast make his head spin. I'm seriously concidering filing an IA complaint, as he's obviously breaching his oath of office, lieing to the public (and administration?), defrauding and wasting public funds, AND creating a dangerous environemnt for law abiding citizens.
