Weighing the options it would appear a Utah Non-Res would be the least painful. As a matter of principle I don't agree with the training requirement at all. While open carry is an option in both states, I'd rather not draw the attention.

If I'm remembering correctly, Utah has some advantages over Florida
1) Florida's list of permit holders is public record, Utah's isn't. 2) Utah is cheaper for renewals. If they both give the needed coverage, those 2 reasons are enough to make Utah the better choice. (someone correct me if I'm wrong here....)

Anyone know of a utah class in SEPA? Apparently none of my training is good enough for florida and the utah thing seems to be a convenient package.

Personal Defense Solutions has the setup for the Florida ccw and are in E / SE PA. The "class" is nothing more than paperwork and a quick "this is how my gun works" show to the instructor. |

Do you have a DD214, Hunter Safety card, or NRA approved basic handgun certificate? If so, you're good to go in FL.

Personal Defense Solutions does offer a FL class but when I inquired about a Utah class he (Dr. Eimer) said only does a one on one class for the Utah permit and wanted $350 for it, said there was no real interest in it. He's more interested in making money. IMHO the Utah permit is the better deal, basically the same states nearby PA and the cost is much less. UT new permit $65 renewal $10 FL new permit $117 renewal $100 Good Luck, Bill

Which one of the internationally recognized instructors that you have trained with do they not recognize? Seriously... what about the certs did they not recognize as valid? Sigatures? It might help others know what will pass for FLA training certs. |

Multiple posts have answered, but DD214, Hunter Safety card, or NRA approved basic handgun certificate or any other associated safety related 'Official' courses are accepted. |

I suppose I don't understand the "official" courses piece of it. As I understand it, the MarcS has quite a bit of official training with many qualified and internationally recognized instructors, and would like to understand which one of the courses FLA did not find to be acceptable in order to qualify for a FLA LTCF? Is it that these courses are more Tactical/Defensive type of courses vs safety courses offered by a nationally recognized organization (Hunter Safety, NRA, Miltary Background, etc). Is it that the certificates don't carry a signature of an instructor... what about these courses are not considered to be sufficient. I'm sure that there are a few out there that do not have the specific background, but do have several tactical scool training ,etc. |
