My apartment was burglarized several years back and all my guns were stolen. When I called the police to file a report, they "asked" me to hop in the cruiser and come to the station for an interview. I was grilled for HOURS by a detective before finally being able to go home. I was not under arrest or anything, but my only ride home was in a police car. Now, I wonder if my name is included in a list of suspected straw purchasers. I was the victim of a crime, yet it was assumed that I was the criminal. |

Gun legislation is a slippery slop and I don't trust any of these politicians. Enforce the laws in place and stop letting violent criminals out of jail early.

it is not only gun violence, it is knife, and other leathel objects.
the base problem is multi layered, big city politicans not wanting to deal with the real issues that would cost them votes and parents who don't have a clue how to raise kids keeping career crimnials in jail, there is a big no no for politicans, $$$ more spending to keep the law abiding citizens safe, more and larger prisions and critizing judges for slap on the wrist sentences and parole boards for turning loose dangerous criminals to aleave prision over crowding i have not heard Rendell talk about that those !! only ones that don't cost money so who do they want to punish ? law abiding gun carring citizens that have a need to protect ourselves because of our broken system PA is very gun friendly and needs to stay that way. there are very few places that i can not carry and to let local govts. adopt their own gun laws so that the local politicans can falsely lead the people into believing that these laws make them safer is a joke illegal drugs are illegal, correct, but are available almost everywhere to crimnials, crimnials don't obay the law and won't obay any new gun laws or existing ones (clue ! any anti-gun politicans out there?) make handgun ownership and sales completly illegal and only law enforcement and criminals will have them and we will be defenseless it will just drive up the cost of illegal drugs to cover the cost of handguns and create a new market. there will be no shortage to criminals, just more crime, sort of a snow ball effect

i don't have much a problem with reporting any of my firearms stolen to protect myself due to the possiblity of the weapon may be used in a crime (may not mean didly squat though)
the laws must read "KNOWLING" even though i know where all of my firearms are on a daily basis i do feel a little uncomfortable about giving in on this one give the anti's an inch they will want a mile !

Not really. I would say he's being realist, not necessarily racist.
A lot of gun store clerks I've talked to say that this is routinely what happens in practice - A black man walks in with his girlfriend, points out a gun he wants, and they both walk out of the store. Later that day or the next, the girlfriend shows up with cash to buy a gun. Later on that very same day or the next, the gun is reported stolen and detectives are rooting through the FFL's log books shortly thereafter. From what I understand, almost every time the girlfriend actually reports the gun stolen. This is far removed from the scenario Rendell is trying to portray - where people are simply purchasing guns like candy and then handing them to criminals with no trace. Think about it - if you are a straw purchaser, you are more likely to report the gun stolen in order to clear your name from the books than to just hand it over to a criminal and take no further action. And face it, Philadelphia's murder problem is largely the result of a black cultural problem. Do white people do the same thing? Probably. But you can't deny that the practice is more prevalent among blacks - at least in the Philadelphia area. |
