I recently purchased a pistol and rifle to use specifically for multi-gun type shoots. I had them shipped in to my local dealer to do the transfer. I went Tuesday and filled out the usual forms. My guy called it in and was on hold forever which usually means to me that I am going to recieve a "hold" as was told system is down. OK no big deal other than I am a bit bummed as I cant take the new "toys" home to play with.
I expected a call from my dealer the next day and had planned on sending the significant other to retreive my guns. Here it is Friday eve and still no call back on the PICS number. Should I be worried? I have had issues on the system being down in the past but usually get the approval number the next day. Is there anyway of getting a fire lit under someone as I only had a 3 day inpection on these pieces...sure they look good but do want to verify they function properly. FFL holder is in town so that ain't gonna happen. |

I was under the thought it was 72hr & the dealer released the item unless a "DENY" was given? now the wife drops 15day + nobody knows what is proper if there is no response within or after the 15 days LOL never had this issue before go on after 3 days - usually if there was some glitch it was ok'd within 24 hours. TIA Gents "The Insignificant Other"

It has a known "issue" and you're going to fire it??

Sure if you know what the known issue is....its not like its going to blow up just an issue ejecting a spent shell....

Before the FFL got off the phone the first time the PICs folks should have given him some kind of disposition, either Denied, In Research or the system is down. If the system was down, they should have told him when to try back (typically hours, I've never seen it days) or told him when they would call him. If nothing else, he should have called first thing in the morning. If everything was ok (the next morning), they would have issued him an approval number and you would have had until midnight that day to finish the transaction otherwise he (the FFL) would have to do the check all over again after voiding the first transaction. He then has to have an explanation to attach to the SP4-113 when it goes to the Firearms Unit.
The 3 day inspection period can be defined many ways, you need to know how the seller defines it (or work it out between both of you). It could be 3 days from you actually take possession (after the PICS) or 3 days from when the FFL receives the shipment or 3 days from the first time you lay eyes on it at the FFLs'.

It was definately put into research. My FFL got the approval 7 days after initial call....then we went into the nightmare that system that gave out PICS #s was down....argghhhhh some times I really hate beurcacracy (yeah its not spelled tight)
after a total of 10 days I finally got my guns...both are fine. Even the one with the issue turned out to not have a major issue. Just someone didn't understand setting a FAL gas system. Ejects spent shells just fine after getting it set up properly. His loss, my gain. I just bought a S&W 625....lets see how this one goes. I will report back in a week or so sd it needs to be shipped in. |

Either way you need to clarify the 3 day stipulation before closing the deal. |

Tazz, I just went through the same thing.. 10 days ago..I was put on delayed status just got approval yesterday..Frustrated though because I cant pick up the gun till Wednesday. The shop is closed all weekend! Can you believe that???

Just a FYI, having your wife pick up the guns is a technical no-no IIRC, the paperwork was done by you, not your wife.
At home or out and about, you and your wife can freely do what you want as far as possession of your guns since you are married (as long as one or the other is not a prohibited person of course), but at the shop when 4473's are involved, the person whose name is on the forms are to take actual possession. If your FFL allows such things, a friendly reminder may be in order. I am not a lawyer, just a former FFL that still works PT for a dealer. |
