My dad is judge of elections in our borough, so I never would've heard the end of it if I hadn't voted. I always do anyway.

I worked the polls once last year for a primary and really enjoyed it. But it sort of frightened me to see the people that are responsible for electing our public officials. Eek.

Ha.
They had my wife's name listed incorrectly for a few years.

Yesterday, as we got our paper to sign, the lady at the table says "OK, now we just compare your signature to what's on our book to see if it matches..."
Before she can finish, my wife asks "Why isn't my signature in your book?"

Lady: "Oh my!" (turns to me) "She IS who she SAYS she is, RIGHT?(jokingly)

Me: "Yes." (secretly rolling my eyes at the ineptitude and lack of professionalism)

Lady: "Oh, GOOD!" (Giggle. Giggle. Giggle.) "Just have to be sure you're really YOU!" (Giggle! Giggle! Giggle!)
(Sound of three other lady officials join in the giggle-fest)

As we step down to the next lady, (who's "job" is apparently, to tear off the stub from the "signature paper" and hand it to you, to hand to the next lady, who then walks you to the voting machine) I ask, "Am I not supposed to SIGN that?"

Ladies(all of them): (Giggle! Giggle! Giggle!) "Oh Betty, you're not doing your job!" (Giggle! Giggle! Giggle! - Giggle! Giggle! Giggle!)

(hands the paper back to me for signature)

In addition to my complete lack of faith in the electronic voting system, I find the "human factor" to be less than reassuring as well.

Perhaps I should have OC'd like gnbrotz?
It would have almost certainly reduced the amount of giggling I had to endure.

I voted at 6:00 last night and was only number 210 in my polling place. Talk about low turnout. We were the folks that were on TV last Presidential because of the long lines.

Oh,
forgot to point out that my trip to the polls was also the first time I used my new LTCF. Pocket carried the p32 and it felt great!

(baby steps)

I voted and I carried, although concealed.

No surprises in Pike County, about 7,500 usually turn out on off years, about 600 in my district.

Over the years I have voted in 3 different states, PA is the only state that allows campaigners to harass incoming voters. Of course, they were all anti-gun Democrats, looking for last hour converts. Pike (statistically) votes Republican, Pro-Gun, Pro-Choice (in that order).

A couple of girls were working the poll together for a particular candidate. When they approached me, I asked is he pro-gun/pro-choice, the one said yes – the other looked at her and said he’s a Democrat so he’s not pro-gun. The first one just laughed and said I know. So you see, they’re already typical politicians.

How can you tell if a politician’s lying? Their mouth is moving.

if i were pat robertson, i'd say luke ravenstahl is god's punishment against pittsburgh for not bothering to vote.

actually, i typically say i don't mind low voter turnout because if people aren't even motivated enough to vote, i'm pretty sure they aren't motivated enough to actually be informed about the candidates, so i'd rather they just not vote as opposed to casting an ignorant vote.

but, apparently, about 60% of the 30% of pittsburghers who did come out to vote cast at least one ignorant vote anyway, so we might as well get all the moronic masses out to vote. maybe we'd elect a decent mayor by accident.
