our county has the electronic one too, as far as a paper trail, the machine has a "0's sheet" printed in the morning, to verify there are no votes on before the election we are there to oversee the machines all day, and at the end of the night there is a final tally receipt that comes out w/ all the totals, like a register recipt, so there is actual record of what was voted, for any malfescence, the local election board themselves would have to tamper w/ the machine, and i dont think most are capible, frankly. so, barring actuall machine problems/glitches, it should be pretty secure.

your county may vary, though
+1, I worked as a Constable of elections for about 6 years, the avg poll worker is not the fizziest can in the 6-pack.

if you feel something was done wrong at your polling place, report it to the County Election Comission posthaste, I mean NOW.

Polls open at 7am, not 7:45, if NONE of the voting machines didn't work, someone there needs to be removed.

Also, to echo about the voting receipt, it's supposed to be posted in the window or in an open place at the polling place after the close of the polling place.

I'll be going to vote shortly...in my area, I get to see the underage folks come in, and get turned away, and non-registered voters come in and get turned away.
they get really mad when they cant vote.

People dont know they have to register to vote?!?!!??

what are they teaching in schools these days? (don't tell me, i'll probably get mad.)

As soon as the poll doors close, the machines are set to tabulate, and get paper records printed.

At that time, absentee ballots are opened, read aloud, and verified by the workers.

Absentee ballots ARE counted.

Just got back from voting and the feedback we got from the voting volunteers is, "The voter turnout in Reading is very low."

I haven't gone yet, my uncle just got back and was only number 34 to vote.. Theres big winds and its ffffffreezin here so I bet it stays that way.

I've thought about it more than once and I wonder if our vote doesn't mean just a little more when less people come out.

As long as we get a good turnout from the guys who agree with our positions I would have to say yes.

When turnout is low, your vote counts for SO much more than when it is high. it's easy math just figure if 100 people vote you're 1% of the vote, if 100000 people vote, you're .001% of the vote... Many local elections are decided by hundreds of votes or less, sometimes only a handful of votes swing an election one way or another...

Unfortunately there is rarely low turnout for the federal general elections... Which means that your vote is usually worth less than 0, I.E. The amount of taxes you pay far outweighs the amount of representation that your vote stands for at election time....

This is an off-year vote (no fed or state govt seats), so the turn out is usually low (unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you feel).

I voted for all of the judicial positions, including retention, those were the only ones I focused on at all. I also voted for county commissioner, other than that, there really wasn't much to choose from. I almost wrote Ron Paul in on a couple of races.

That could have proven interesting. I guess he would have to resign from those posts, if he were elected, to run for Pres. if he gets out of the primaries.

Yeah, I was sadly in a hurry and didn't feel terribly mischievous today.
