I hate to do this but I'm gonna blindly go with the FOAC Voter Guide. I've neglected my local politics since moving down here...

The only changes will be Desantis for Mayor (still a punk ass but I *reall* hate Ravenstahl.) And Rautekus for Controller.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

You can register online. All you do is print the form and mail it in to the local election board. It takes care of the State form.

FOAC endorsed judges...

Supreme Court – Open Seats (Vote for TWO)
Seamus McCaffery (D) [ex-cop, gun-toting Irish biker, gets my vote]
Maureen Lally-Green (R) -this is a toss-up between Green and Krancer, FOAC I believe endorsed Krancer during the primaries but has since put their weight behind Green.

Superior Court – Open Seats (Vote for TWO)
Jacqueline Shogan (R)
Cheryl Lynn Allen (R)

-I sent out a letter asking all the judicial candidates about their views, Shogan and Allen were the only ones to respond favorably stating they were strict constructionalists and they're pro-gun as far as I understand it, so I'll agree with the FOAC guide on them, they get my vote.

Quote:
Dear Mr. NineseveN,
I am not sure that I fully understand the nuances of the various terms, but I have always considered myself to be a strict constructionist who, above all, would remain faithful to the US and PA constitutions and the protection of individual rights. Thank you for your interest in my campaign.
Best regards,
Jackie Shogan

.................................................. ..................

I am writing concerning the upcoming judicial elections of which you are a candidate. I've done my best to seek out your opinions and policies, but I have a few brief questions on your positions concerning some issues important to me. If you could indulge me by briefly answering the following, it would enable me to make a much more informed decision come November 6th.

As a member of the court, both now and in any future positions you may hold or be elected to, cases involving many different issues are sure to come before you, I would like some information on your thoughts along the following topics:

The battle between gun-control advocates and pro-gun activists has long raged in this state; one side suggests that the guns are the problem, ignoring the socio-economic and legal issues that truly cause crime while the other asserts the right of the people to keep and bear arms without question or infringement as being above the scope of crime prevention and that as such, whether or not guns help contribute to crime is not relevant as the importance of the people maintaining a defense against violence or tyranny generally outweighs the social concerns regarding crime.

The Pennsylvania Constitution of 1776 has been described as the most democratic in America and though it has changed and been revised over the years, I believe that the general principles under which is was founded reamain the same. My question here is, as a judge, in matters involving the constitution, would you consider yourself a strict constructionist, originalist, doctrinalist, developmentalist, contextualist, structuralist or something else?

RESPONSE: A strict constuctionist

Finally, to get a feel for your character and beliefs in regards to civil liberties, I have a simple question. When deciding matters of law, whether they be concerned with terrorism, activism, religion, law enforcement or social issues, which of the following (if any) is the most scared and important; the rights and freedom of the individual, the saftey, prosperity or interest of the society as a whole or the duty, respsonsibility and power of the government?

RESPONSE: The rights and freedom of the individual as protected under the Constitution and our laws.

Your response to these questions would be most appreciated. All apologies for the eleventh hour nature of these inquiries, it just could not be helped. If you would like, I have access to read prior decisions, so any examples of your previous judicial opinions that you wish to reference in response to the above would also be appreciated and most helpful.

Thank you
NineseveN

I know it's pretty late and this is terrible but I have to be pretty honest and say that I know hardly anything about local and state government. It's a shame because this is exactly the kind of voting that gives me the loudest voice.

Does anyone know of any reading beyond what is in this thread already that I can do about PA state and Centre county candidates? I'd really like to take my duties as a citizen more seriously.

Check the Centre board.

I'll be out voting!
