Eotech on a pistol?

i was thinking about adding a sight to my ar and pistols and i was thinking the eotech would be perfect for rifle and both pistols (ruger mkIII 22/45 and s&w .44 mag hunter). has anyone else tried and eotech on a pistol? if so got any pics? and of course how do you like it. thanks.

I personally think an Eotech would make the pistol too heavy.
I would look into something like a Truglo Trupoint.

I ran one on my Ruger for a bit, and found out it wasn't for me.
I prefer iron sights on a pistol.

I shot one on a compensated .45 ACP once. It didn't balance badly, but was a bit higher than the C-more. I liked the C-more a bit better, but the Eo wasn't bad. You just have to get used to a different index on the pistol (head higher than what you would use for tracking iron sights).

I have one on a .44 magnum T/C Contender barrel - a ten incher. I had gone through three other "recoil proof" red dot sights with that barrel - all broke under recoil. The Eotech has held up. It's a hunting gun and still easy to carry.

I have tried the Bushnell Holo site which is almost identical to eotechs and had fair results. It does add considerable weight to the gun but in a heavy recoiling pistol that's never a bad thing. The only issue I experienced was the the site rides very high and can be hard to zero while still maintaining proper form

If you don't mind spending the cash, you can look into a J-Point sight. It's similar to a C-more, Docter Optic, etc. However, for an additional fee (above the normal purchase price) they have a "melt-in" install for Glocks and 1911s.



The "melt-in" install sits the sight low enough that you can see the slide of the pistol in view with the dot, so the sight picture is more like irons than most reflex sights. Not sure if they do this for other pistols as well, but they do have a large selection of traditional mounts as well.

The JP sight is not really comparable to a C-more, though.

Anything that rides on the slide is going to be closer to the actual sight plane if you are used to using iron sights......

But.... (you knew there was a "but")

.....anything that rides on the slide is going to be harder to track in recoil. That is why most full blown race guns have the sight mounted to the frame.

The Doctor sights had a har dtime surviving through recoil. I've heard good things about the JP, but anything along for the ride on the slide better be TOUGH.

The JPoint sights are tough. I have had one on the slide of my 1911 for about three years now at a few thousand rounds per year. It has survived quite nicely.

But -

I don't agree with that at all. The sight is no more difficult to track than the iron sights were - in fact, it's way easier, otherwise it wouldn't be on the gun.
The slide is back in battery before the shooter can register the fact. I'd alwasy felt that the sights on race guns were picked because they had a larger objective and were easier to see through as opposed to any recoil factor

I wasn't comparing the JP to iron sights.....just to a frame mounted red dot (which is typically how the C-more is mounted).

It's pretty common to see a slide mounted red dot on an IPSC Modified gun because they need to fit in the box, but most Open guns use a frame mounted optic.

Been working w/some Burris Fast Fires for a few years. The 'micro sights' really have held up well.

Try the newer Burris Fast Fire II. Upgraded version of the Fast Fire also has a waterproof seal.

Mounts already made for the guns mentioned.

A shotun version had been out and won some award in 2009.
