Default Parallax

I am curious about parallax error. I have my marlin 39a, and I am considering getting a scope for it.

On the short-list is the Nikon ProStaff Scope 4x32 Rimfire Classic, which is set for 50 yards of parallax. Or the Leupold rimfire scopes, which are parallax set for 60 yards.

How bad is that going to be at 25 and 100 yard distances?

Or should I get a Muller or Leupold with adjustable parallax?

Thanks,

-MT

An adjustable AO is always a good thing and allow for more precise shooting. With a 39a it sounds like you are shooting for fun, plinking etc and it may be less of an issue to you. Where you will see it the most is at close ranges. Typically the closer the object is to you the more you realize parallax.

50 or 60 yds is good for a 22 and I would expect either scope (or a similar one) to work well for you.

If you expect the most out of your weapon and are going after bottlecaps, go for an adjustable AO (I would opt for the Mueller APV).

I would like to shoot bottlecaps with it... the Mueller does sound nice. Almost to the point of being too good to be true.

I have never owned a Mueller but have heard much praise regarding them. I may spring for the APV and put it on a bull barell 17 HMR I have with a so-so clarity wise but accurate scope.

Ebay had quite a few Muellers with full warranty and good prices last time I looked if you are interested. Just stay away from the China/Honk-Kong/Great Britian sellers.

Well, I went cheap... I figure I'll try a simmons 22mag scope with AO. Total was $60 from here.

If it was a mistake, it won't be too painful. If it is, then I'll prolly suck it up and get the Leupold 3-9x with AO. Figure that one can't be a mistake. Overkill, but not a mistake.

The Muller APV I saw was pretty big, and 14x magnification is a little much for me at this point. Also, didn't want any battery powered scopes for the classic lever. It's bad enough I am scoping it.

The AVP is more of a rimfire scope. IMO, you should always buy the right optic to do the job. I see people buying regular scopes for air rifles and they wonder why the scopes break on them. There is nothing wrong with trying to save some money, but often is the case that you get what you pay for in the end.

The Muellers are good scopes for the money. I have one on my 22mag and I was pretty impressed with the clarity for a $130 scope.

The 39a is a rimfire.
