Default My BSA Sweet .17 ran out of adjustment!

Help!

I have Savage 93R17 .17 HMR and mounted a BSA Sweet .17 scope on it that I got from a friend of mine.

The scope worked fine on my friend's Ruger .17 but I just tried to sight it in on my Savage and I ran out of vertical adjustment. The rifle is shooting about 5 inches high at 100 yards with Hornady 17 grain V-Max ammo and I can't get the cross hairs to move any lower.

The scope is mounted in a set of extra high rings, which came with the rifle. They are a little high for me to get my regular cheek weld.

Questions:

Is this just a mounting issue or is there something wrong with the scope?

Should I get a set of lower rings to bring the scope closer to the bore?

I hate sounding like a noob but I've never had this happen before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In an ideal situation you want the scope as low as possible to the action in terms of height. The closer to the bore centerline it is the better.

I tried looking for a good pic of the scope to see what style adjustments it has but SWFA didn't have a very clear pic.

If it has the calibrated turrets on it you may have to "slip" them. Basically you would loosen the screws that hold the turret cap to the actual adjuster underneath and either take the cover off and continue to make your adj down to finish zeroing or just spin the cover in the up direction then tighten the screws back up and zero from there.

Don't froce the adjuster thought or you will break the scope internally.

That has to be it. I feel stupid.

I just pulled the top turret cover off and two of the three screws were wicked loose. I never thought about it because I've never had a scope where you could remove the turret cover by loosening the set screws.

Thanks.
