Default Flip mount for scope

I was thinking today about how to mount a Millett Tactical DMS scope on an AR (just brainstorming for future projects) and wondered if anybody had used the side flip mount meant for the EOTech magnifiers for a regular scope.

Would the single clamping point work for the primary optic and not just for the magnifier? It would make getting the scope out of the way easier than having to flip the levers on a QR mount and you wouldn't have to worry about where to put it once it was removed. It would be on the side of the gun.

Any input on this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Remember I'm still just brainstorming here.

Default Re: Flip mount for scope

I'd worry about your primary optic holding zero with such a small clamping surface. It's not an issue with the fixed magnifiers, which are merely magnifying the sight picture of your primary optic--they can move a bit but it won't affect your accuracy. I imagine a Millett Tactical DMS weighs a good bit more than a fixed magnifier, which could compound any issues with holding zero.

If you could find someone with a flip mount it may be worth trying, but I don't think I'd spend all the money on a Larue flip mount if I wasn't sure it would work. Not a lot to spend on a rifle, but a lot to spend if it's going to sit in a box.

Good luck!
