Default Best scope under $250

Well I'm looking for a good piece of glass for my 308. I'm tired of crappy $40 scopes that go 3 feet off at 20 yards when dropped into soft dirt and grass. My requirements are:
* Must hold zero when dropped or fired over 200 - 500 rds,
* Variable power so I can clearly count antlers before I shoot

That's it. I'm more than willing to do my part in practicing, but from this point forward I want consistent bullseyes and more meat on the table. What set me off is missing a deer last season after falling in mud and dropping my 308. At that point the laser bore siter verified I was 1 foot off at 20 feet

But I was just at the range the other day and zeroed my scope at 50 yards, and checked with a laser bore siter. Then after 10 rounds, I verified my crosshairs moved and inch with the bore siter.

I don't think any scope can be counted on to hold zero if you drop it, if dropped even the mounts could cause trouble with holding zero, naturally steel mounts would be better than aluminum.

I have a Bushnell Sportview that has served quite well on my Ruger 77 (.308), shoould be around $150.

I am eyeing up a Weaver K-4 for my daughters Savage .243, they are right around $125 new, did a lot of research into the Weaver, highly recommended.

Good outfit to order from and they warranty most if not all scopes.

I would look at AR 15 .com in the EE. You will find a nice scope used. Get a buris or leupold cause they have the lifetime warrenty. I know Leupold doesnt care if you are the original owner. I am thinking of getting a new Var X 2 3-9 x 40 mm for my flat top AR. new they are 299. That is a real good deal for a decent scope. They are entry level scopes but they will do the job. I cant see spending 1000 bucks or more on a scope. thats just me I would go to 650-700 max for a good scope. That would have to be for a really good target gun too.

VERY nice scopes for the money. Very good glass, bright optics and handle recoil well....lifetime warranty too-as are all Bushnell products. CTD is normally on the high side though. My local dealer sells the Bushnell 3200 series cheaper than anywhere I found online, around $170 for the 3200 3x9-40 in SS finish. Actually, most Bushnell products are pretty good and damn good values for the money...even their lower dollar stuff.

Holletta, I see you're in northeast PA too. Which dealer are you talking about? It's probably not that far from me. I'm out in Wilkes Barre and Scranton from time to time, and even hit Gander Mt up in Dickson City once in a while.

Chemist,

The dealer I'm referring to is Dave's guns in Drums. Small out of the way place but nice people, good deals and decent selection. Drums is a little north of hazleton but south of WB/Scranton.
