I should have been more specific. I meant, nothing that wasn't a red dot or a holographic sight.

Anyone using a red dot scope (which for the most part are 1X and do not magnify) and has astigmatic eyes (like mine) should be wearing thier normal prescription glasses and if they don't need to wear glasses yet because their eyes are astigmatic but still 20/20, should spend a few sheckels at an optometrist and get a pair that corrects the astigmatism and makes round look round. That way you'll see a red dot instead of a red wooly caterpillar.
The advantage of using a scope or red-dot for old guys like me is the optics put the target and the aiming reference (the dot) on the same plane so there is no way we have to shift focus from rear sight to front sight to target (even though your focus is supposed to be on the front sight), simply focus on the dot like it was the front sight and that's it.

Leupold & Burris made 1X sights which are often mistakenly called scopes.
Lesser grade dots will flare when light intensity is increased, or the maker tries to add magification. Aimpoint is the only maker that has sucessfully made a true 2X & 3X scope sights in a one w/out that problem. In many cases 1X sights cases are better than using illuminated dots sights (1X) for hunting in low light. When using any scope above 1X EP (Eye Power) the brain has trouble processing the images since one eye will 'see' the sight, and the other will 'see' the view (target). Some people who are cross shooters hold right handed (or left) but using the left eye IF it's the dominant eye can have some focus problems when viewing at long distances, and can also have trouble with accuray at longer distances since the line of sight isn't always in the exact plane. |

Thanks for the replies guys.
Guns & Glass, I see you list your location as Maxatawny. Are you right in "downtown" there? If so, you are about two miles from me!

A lot of people mount red dots too close. Move it out further and the dot will be more round and clear.

It's on a pistol at arm's length. It can't get too much further out than that.
