I got one on my hunting rifle and it does just fine. They're good scopes for the price.

The Prosport and Blazer scopes are centerfire scopes and paralex is set for 100yds, at close range there will be a lot of movement of the crosshairs unless your eye is exactly in the center of the occular lens. The .22mag is ment foe .22s and paralex is set at 50 yards.

I've had a Simmons 4.5 X 14 X 40 on my 243 for nine years and absolutely love it and never had a problem!

Scopes have a built in error. At "odd ranges" the crosshairs will be in different places on the target if your eye isn't lined up exactly perfect in relation to the scope.

Most rifle-scopes are parallax adjusted so that the crosshairs are dead-on at 100 yards, and even if you don't have the scope lined up perfectly, the crosshairs will move to match the target. At ranges inside of 100 yards it becomes exaggerated - shooting at 25 yards the shots will be all over if you're not lined up EXACTLY every time.

Out past 100 yards the error diminishes - so at 200 yards you may be off by 1" - still close enough to get that deer.

For target shooting you may want a scope with adjustable parallax so that if you are at distances outside of of the set parallax on the scope you're still good.

The Simmons 22mag series has one with adjustable parallax - I have it on my Marlin 39a levergun and it works just fine. I think I got it for $60.

Most rimfire scopes are parallax set for 50 yards. Most centerfire scopes are set for 100 yards.

One thing you can do to check is lock your rifle into a rest, note where the crosshairs are - then move yourself around and see if from different angles the crosshairs are still on the same spot.

I have a couple Simmons scopes. 3x9x40 and 4.5x14x40 both are decent for the price (less than $100). I beleive they are the 8 point models. I know that isn't what you are looking at but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in about Simmons.

Good Luck!

after looking at a bunch of them I think the new master series Simmons scopes have just a little bit more clarity.
Simmons was bought by Meade Optical Meade is considered the gold standard by amature astronomers.
