Had to go with Tri-power. At least the newer Gen ones. I just love Chevrons too much.

I had an Aimpoint M3 on active duty, and now I have the M4. I chose the M4 over the M3 due to availability of AA batteries.

My only gripe with the M4 is the weight. It's not very bad, but with the battery in, it is a bit over 13oz, which is not too far from double the weight of the M3.

Since it is only a difference of a few ounces, I still prefer the quality, smaller MOA and
long lasting/easy to find battery, over the M3. However, if the sole purpose of the rifle were to be home defense, I would likely drop the optic, and just use the BUIS.

What is your reasoning?

Small house... very close ranges. I would want to drop every ounce I could manage, so that I could manipulate the weapon more rapidly.

It probably really does not matter much, and maybe I am preoccupied with insignificant increments.

There is a point where weapon weight and weapon capability cross. A lightweight weapon is nice but a weapon with enhanced capabilities is nice as well.

I have found for me that balance is more important than overall weight.
