OC at Gander denied; Sign vanishes.
My friend and myself were at Gander, looking for a balaclava for him, and mostly just browsing. Its a Sunday, so they were busier than normal, but that did not deter us. I actually left the hoodie in the car, cause it was warm, thus making myself OC. He did the same, and he was using a shoulder rig (barrel pointed behind him if anyone is wondering).
It wasn't our first time carrying there, and I definitely knew we were allowed, both from this site and Gander's own site, and the sign at their door that says we were excluded from their check-in policy. Anywho, an employee came up to us and asked if we needed any help, and we asked if they had any balaclavas, and he said they didn't, and we said ok and started to browse again.
He then asked if we checked in our guns. We kinda glanced at each other and were like, "No, we're not bringing them in for repair, we're OC'ing, which is allowed, because Gander corp policy follows state laws". He was like, "Well, we do have a sign that says that all firearms and bows must be checked in at the front desk, and unloaded. I don't know if they are unloaded....if you want we can check them in?"
At this point, we knew they didn't have what we were looking for, so we were leaving, so I said, "No, they are loaded, of course, and not to be rude, but your incorrect about the gun policy. We're not going to check them in, we're just going to leave."
So on the way out, we wanted to check the sign for shits and giggles, cause we knew we were right, and guess what. The sign was taken down. We laughed, and walked out. Looking back, we should have walked right back in, and when they confronted us, we should have said, "well, I don't see any sign..." lol
Throughout the whole ordeal, he was very nice and cordial, and didn't "judge" us in anyway. He did pull the "safety of the customers" blah blah blah. But! He was wrong. So I wrote to Gander using their survey on their site, cause they don't actually have an email for that type of thing. I'll also be calling tomorrow, because who knows if/when they'll get around to checking it.
I don't know how else to end this, so, that's all!
