Default Re: Any1 Oc'ing to polls?

What a freaking nightmare. I had those poor bastards that "run" the place chasing their tails. My polling district had only one voting machine and there was a line in the building all day. One guy would tell me one thing and another guy would tell me something else. When I asked them for clarification they would have to find out what was actually going on. After about 10 minutes they gave up and started to let the voters do what they wanted. My Mom, who is the judge of elections for our district, called me ahead of time and told me what it was like in there. When I got there, there was about 100 people in line. Some were there for over an hour. It was elbow to elbow.

BTW, there was no issue with my OC. I'm not surprised. With the amount of people in there it would have been tough to see it.

Well I, as a constable, worked 4 different polling places so I wasn't able to be at each one all the time. I did not see any one OC in Vandergrift! I did talk with alot of individuals, all of whom were surprised about OC law and being able to vote while armed. They all were very open, all the people I talked with were very gun friendly. Nothing more awesome than the lil' ole election lady well into her retirement talking about 2 rifles in the bedroom, 1 handgun in the living room and 4 in the basement. Almost every individual, even the democrats, lol, liked guns, wanted them in their homes and around them. So although I didnt see any OC, it was a good day, now as to the election results? Thats another topic another day

Well I had a pretty good experience. Went to the polls early this morning after a quick phone call to make sure it was legal. Polling place is inside township building but I've been there enough to know there is no sign posted...ANYWHERE...about firearms. I was told as long as as I'm a legal gun owner there is no problem.

When I arrived at the building there were a few LEO's outside with some party rep's and the chief of police. I went to college with 2 of the LEO's so they've known me for 20 years. When I walked up I got the hello's and how is the family....then the chief looked on my hip. He says...."What is that?" but with more of a twinkle in his eye. I of course responded my sidearm and he said "No, what is it as in make and model?" I told him a Taurus PT 1911 and he proceeds to show me his new Kimber in his holster. We go inside the police station because he wants to look at it and I'm thinking....here we go with this crap. He then takes his out, pulls the mag and clears the chamber and hands me his Kimber so I do likewise.

We then had about a 30 minute conversation about 1911's and our experiences with them in the military. Then this blew my mind.....one of the township supervisors walks in and see's what we're doing. He then takes his Colt Gold Cup out of his shoulder rig and does the same.

We ended up talking for about 30 more minutes about the Second Amendment, open carry, what ranges are the best to go to, and what gun shops we spend money at.

I never in my life thought I would have an encounter like this. During the conversation my 2 officer friends came in and out a few times and just laughed and shook their heads saying I just made the old mans day....he loves shooting and loves 1911's even more. I asked if they knew about the open carry laws in the Commonwealth and they said that is ALWAYS part of the training updates they cover.

I don't know about anyone on this site.....but I had to smile.

My county wouldn't let me keep the peace at the polling place this year, since I was on the ballot.

I've heard that in a few places, which in reality is illegal! You by law are required to be at your polling place to keep the peace irrelevant of your being on the ballot! Although we all know the government whether fed, county or city never cares what the law says, its all about what they want!

Can you cite any type of exception, because I know candidates must remain a certain distance from the entrance? My constable always sits inside, but I guess if he kept the peace from outside the "candidate perimeter" that his duty could be carried out without being in violation of voting regulations.

Late entry, but yes

No line, everything was smooth including checking in with the grandmotherly types working the table, right up until I finished and stepped away from the machine. Then these 2 older gentleman (one of whom was the guy who escorted me to the machine to begin with) approached:

OG2: "Excuse me sir, do you have a permit for that?" gesturing toward my Glock
ME: "You don't need one to OC on foot in Pennsylvania......."
OG2: "Really? I didn't know that."
ME: "...and it isn't a permit, it's a License to Carry Firearms. It does not say 'permit' or 'concealed' anywhere on it."
OG1 (the one who escorts people to the machines): "But not at the polls!"
ME: "Yes, at the polls. There was a case a couple of years ago......."
OG1: "We were told no one, not even the constables, can carry here....."
Nicely Dressed Lady "Joe! Joe! Yes he can! He's fine!"
OG1: "Thats not what they told us."
NDL: "Constables can't but he can. Anyone can, except constables."
The grandmotherly types at the table then jumped in in agreement with me and the nicely dressed lady. Joe and his friend slinked back to their seats mumbling about having to do what they are told by their superiors.

I had run out of fliers, and wanted to take some back, but Monica wouldn't let me. She did agree that I could drop some off at the offices of whoever is in charge of elections in the near future.

Was that the crack of a whip I heard?

I had a new batch of fliers in the truck, just in case, Oh, and no wife.
