There you have it. If Steve think you look like a cop then you look like a cop.
I'm not sure what a cop looks like to be honest. I've seen lots of them less well groomed, longer hair, etc than myself
I've always considered myself to look "military" or "prior military" (the correct answer). So I guess to most people "cop" would be another choice.

ETA: While disarming at the annex building prior to the metal detectors I've been asked "what dept I was with". Twice.
Whatever

Gotta wonder if I'd still look like a cop (I hope nobody is offended, I hate using the word "cop", seems disrespectful) if I weren't wearing the holster?

I think it all goes back to what you said before about the HANDGUN making you a "cop" in the eyes of the public.

And I must say, for someone who "looks like a cop", I don't get much respect! LOL!
RESPECT MY AUTHOR-I-TIE! (dammit!)

to add to the regular people wear tactical clothes too thing and to not look like a cop thing....my friends wear woolrich elite clothes-I will when i have enough money, but untill then, I oc wearing like band shirts-metal/hardcore- or like airsoft or movie shirts with blue jeans and shoes. I am currenly using a big clunky bianchi holster but hopefully my CQC holster will get here soon.

Well, since I am admittedly unsure about the whole "look like a cop" thing. I've decided that I should just ask (like EmptyMag did).

Well, what do you all think, do I look like a cop?

How does one look or not look like an off-duty cop you say?

Well, you are clean cut with conservative attire who looks like you could either be in the force or have been in the military. Your choice of carry weapons is close if not similar to many handguns chosen by law enforcement.

In my opinion, the shock factor for you just isn't there. No one I know would think twice about you wearing OC.

Now, try letting your hair grow out so that you can put it in a pony tail, or wearing ear, nose and lip piercings and see the looks you get as you OC. Or, you could dress like an EMO kid, gang banger wanna-be or even like a redneck and see all the looks you will get.

My personal opinion has and will always be that I prefer concealed carry. It's not that I wish to conform to what is acceptable among the masses, but if a BG sees me hobbling down the street with my cane as I OC, I may just be more of a target for the grab than someone not OCing.

I dress 100% redneck, never really any looks when I OC. A few, not much... And I have a pony-tail to the small of my back.

SUN, 7/15/07

Sharon's Sub's, Mountain Top:
Took the family out for Pizza only to find the pizza place closed (unscheduled)
So we went to Sharons instead. No problems. Older gentleman came over to our booth while he was waiting for his take-out to talk to the kids. I was sitting in the booth with my strong side facing the aisle. I suspect he clearly saw my sidearm from the counter/line and may have even come over because of it. I don't know why, just my gut feeling. He was very nice and seemed like a real down to earth kind of guy. When I thanked him for stopping and chatting he smiled and patted me on my strong side shoulder as he turned to leave.

Mr. Z's Grocery, Mtn Top.
Since we were out and needed ice cream cones for our desert we stopped for some shopping.

Attire: Ratty old OD green BDU shorts. Blue patterned henly t-shirt. Hikers, Glock23 in SERPA.

Hey CQB: Called to see if you and yours wanted to accompany us out for food but there was no answer... Obviously you were already out OC'ing elsewhere

TUES 7/17/07

Taking walks with wife, two kids and two dogs regularly now.
Tonight I OC'd all over Fairview Heights (older developement in Mtn Top) definately well-to-do part of town.
Shorts, t-shirt and G23 in SERPA.

No problems. Kids on bikes, other people walking, said hello to all of them. A couple waves from people on their porches, driveways as we passed.
