We have a Home Depot and a True Value in town, guess which I prefer to go to? Yep, the True Value, they are the original hardware store that was here, locally owned as far as I know, and loyal to their employees ( some of the people working there have been working for True Value stores in the area for 15-20 years at least).

I haven't yet OC'd in the True Value, but I am sure if I did and some asshat working in there wanted to be crappy, that I could talk to the employees and managers that have been there forever and would recognize me, and get it worked out.

I can understand your view ungawa, but threatening to spend money elsewhere, and convice other of the same, is our only real option. We cant threaten them with anything but significant loss of profits or bad publicity.
Outright saying you will never again shop there may be wrong. But saying not again until this uninformed view of gun owners changes is fine by me.

From Pro2A's letter
"you have chosen to ban firearms in your store, I will be forced to choose to take my gun, and my money to your competitors until such time as you choose to allow law-abiding armed citizens in your establishment"

He didnt say he wouldn't come back, just until they clarify/inform/or change the policy.

Good quote. I was referring to the first sentence:

Quote:
I am sad to report that I will no longer be spending my money at Lowe's.
Sorta sets the tone, don't you think?

If I have a problem with my used car from a local dealer, I will not start the conversation with, "I will never set foot in your shop again. Now get over here and fix my car!"

I never said it was a bad idea to threaten to spend money elsewhere and especially convincing others to do the same.

We want something. I can only assume the OP wants to get satisfaction on the issue. Not just tell them to F-off, because his letter was obviously crafted thoughtfully with the intent to get satisfaction.

It's just my read on it, nobody has to agree with me.

While I think your example was a bit harsh I look through the letter and agree, first impressions are important, and that is a heavy way to start it. Still, it does clarify the matter further down.
Its sent and cannot be recalled, but it gets the point across. I cant blame him for writing it. I can objectively view the whole thing because I wasnt the one to feel angry and embarassed in front of a group of people. In his place I may not do so well.

I couldn't agree more

Here is how I explained my point of view in the "Kicked out of Giant" thread:

Quote:
The approach that I would always suggest is to avoid saying, "I will never shop here again", but to take a tack that would suggest your buying decisions will be based upon their response. When you say such a thing you’re telling the business no matter what they do, they’ll not get you back as a customer.

Having spent decades working in New Car Dealerships I can say that a customer who tells a dealer or manufacturer "I will never buy again" will get the minimum if any assistance. Conversely, the customer that says "I really like your product, I was considering buying another but now I'm not sure... I certainly hope we can get this resolved" will be more likely to get the most assistance available. It costs too much money to get new customers so businesses are usually willing to bend to keep customers.

Like I said, he obviously crafted the letter in a thoughtful manner. I thought he was asking for input before he sent it, didn't know it was sent. And it was just my 2 cents.

I've been saying it for some time but I borrowed your automotive experience. Before it was a tractor from Sears. I think your local automotive dealer is a better example
