Well part of it is that Allentown is a Philly wannabe, passing their own ordinances. As TC noted in his OP, at least the cops understood preemption. But this might be the first time this guy has had to deal with it. He is probably more used to people trying to return paint they bought and didn't like.

You may want to ask the HD Manager if there will be a store policy for "911 calls for a man with a gun" (from within the store by an orange apron person) that will channel those calls through the office in the future.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and the LEO was trying to help out, on his own time. His errors were probably more to do with training issues in the APD regarding search and Open and Concealed Carry than anything on his part. (I state hopefully)

I am wondering if TrueCrimson could swap a pamphlet drop in APD officer mailboxes in exchange for "forgetting" about what happened. Maybe this could become a learning experience for the APD so they don't let it happen again. A 10 minute refresher course on their part would work wonders in preventing future missteps. It would give them the "ammo" they need to respond to a "man with a gun" call.

The first officer (off-duty) is an idiot. He should never have done anything. If he was approached by Home Depot staff he should have told them to call 911 if they felt the need.

I'd normally cut the LEO some slack, but for that very telling "I don't care what you consent to" remark.

This whole thing was just another incident of "pounding one's chest", as it were.

Hopefully he'll be less of a silverback next time.

I love this one.

As if the color of one's skin or the national origin of one's family makes a flippin' difference.

Welcome to life.

If he disagrees in principle so greatly with corporate policy, will he be seeking employment elsewhere?

Not bloody likely.

perfect from your standpoint, and thanks for the headsup. I have used that HD, and will refrain to use it anymore. Anyway, whitehall got the new Lowes, and I have been going there recently anyway.
