On the issue of whether or not I should have followed through with my purchases there after being asked to leave, its a decision I may make differently depending on the circumstances, however my errands took me to that plaza anyway, and the Lowes is a good 15 miles away. I had my hands full of specialty halogen bulbs that I had spent 15 minutes picking out, and was loath to go through that again. Also, this Mark guy is one manager who comes across as the kind of guy who doesn't give a rat's ass about whether people come into his store or not. I've talked to him before about an issue I had with a door lock I bought there, and he strikes me as just not caring at all about customer satisfaction. If one of my employees would have an attitude like his, I wouldn't put up with it, that's for sure.

I forgot to mention to Mark during our discussion that my company buys semi loads of stuff from his store, and that he was jeopardizing that relationship in a serious way. I did mention that fact to Sam (Asset Protection Manager), and he tried to assure me that I was welcome to exercise my rights in the store, and hoped I would keep doing business with them.

I may need to pay an OC visit tomorrow, to see Mark, and ask for an apology, as well as sharing some fliers with him.

P.S. I forgot to mention that corporate told me to tell Mark to reference document #1605 - for future reference.

I got hassled at the Mechanicsburg HD about 6 months ago. Similar situation to yours but I simply said "Are you asking me to leave?" When his answer was yes I told him "OK, and I will never be back."

I now do 100% of my "home improvement" shopping at Lowes and refuse to step foot in HD. I've been in Lowes countless times and have never even been looked at funny while OC'n.

Doesn't "longhand" and "cursive" mean the same thing?

Here's the reply I received this morning (bold is mine):

Quote:
Dear Mr. xxxxxx,

The Home Depot Customer Care is in receipt of your email.

Our general policy is not to ban customers from carrying firearms on The
Home Depot property in those states having a concealed firearm law,
provided they are carrying the firearm in accordance with the applicable
laws.

If the firearm is not concealed in accordance with the carrying permit
(typically that means concealed and cannot be seen by members of the
public), it is up to the manager based on personal comfort level to
approach the individual directly and request them to leave the premises
or to contact local law enforcement for purposes of having the
individual removed.

We look forward to your continued patronage and assisting you with all
of your home improvement needs.

Regards,

Nayeem
Customer Care
So I followed up with:

Quote:
Thank you for your reply.

What then, would be your official policy regarding firearms that are carried openly (not concealed) as allowed by state law.

Also, is there somewhere on your corporate website that I can read and print
a copy of this policy? If not would you be able to send me a copy in the US
Mail?

Thanks again,
Bill xxxxxx
Stay tuned for the reply,

Bill

I hope I'm allowed to dig up this thread. I was wondering what, if anything, resulted from soberbykers last request for information. I have carried concealed in HD and Lowes for quite some time, but I was an uneducated citizen on open carry until recently and while I no longer TRY to conceal, I wear a coat this time of year that mostly covers and haven't had a problem. I'd like to know if anyone got a definite printout of official HD policy (not just a highranking official's sayso) on this topic yet.

Thank you for digging this up. I missed this one for some reason. I OC at the HD in Wilson Boro and haven't had anything said to me.
