as of right now it looks like I should be able to be there..... since it is right near my house.... One of the guys I work with is a notary, but unfortunately he lives so damn far away I dont think I could convince him to come.......

Getting the fingerprinting done on site is higher priority, if we have to choose.

Push comes to shove, we can always find a notary afterward, but getting fingerprints done can be a hassle if the local police aren't cooperative, which I believe there have been several threads on that issue on this board in the past.

So, while it would be nice to have it all there in order to wrap up the application submission in toto on the day of the class, if effort has to be divided, I'd like to see the fingerprinting taken care of foremost. And like I said before, I'd be willing to pay for the service.

So the 50 million dollar question is....who is in good with the local PD to try to persuade them that I am not some crazyass and that this is a good cause?

That might take some doing...

Are you sure the "cause" should even be mentioned?

Actually, I don't think there is a requirement that they be done by a specific agency or 'certified' party. The problem is that if they are not done properly, they will be rejected, so you're better off having someone who's experienced (typically current or former LEOs) do them for you.

My husband used to do them all the time when he worked at central booking in Lebanon but I don't think he did them for licenses specifically. He may not qualify?

BINGO .....

From Utah BCI ....

Quote:
Fingerprint Card.

One fingerprint card. Must be filled out completely. Writing and prints must be legible. Fingerprint should be taken by a trained fingerprint technician. Fingerprint cards that are not legible will be returned to the applicant and will cause a delay in processing the application.

*Fingerprint services are available from BCI or may be offered through your local law enforcement agency. There are private businesses that also offer this service. Check in your local phone directory. Photos and fingerprints may be obtained at the Bureau of Criminal Identification (3888 W 5400 S, Taylorsville, UT. The cost is $13.00 for 1 photo and $13.00 for up to 3 fingerprint cards.
ETA my wife and I both had ours done by the Chester County Sheriff's Office, hers were rejected by the FBI as not being clear enough and had to have them re-done.

Ok, he said that yes, he does know how to do them....fingerprints. He was trained by central booking so if that is good enough for you guys the he said he'd be willing to do them. He worked for central booking for about a year...it was a PT job but he worked close to FT hours on top of his FT job at the time. Obviously if there is a current LEO available that you guys would feel more comfortable with that surely wouldn't offend me and my husband doesn't have his own materials or whatever.

ETA: My husband is one of the most persnickety people I know. In fact I won't even clean my gun around him because he likes to come along and find something I "missed" on it. (ex army is so fun *sigh*)

Oops, forgot about the 2x2 picture needed.

Anyway, here's a tip to save some money and a bit of running around... if you have a digital camera, you can take your own mug shot, download it to your computer (usually through the USB cable), then size it correctly using PAINT or whatever other image processing software your computer has, and print it out in color on your own home printer on photo-quality glossy paper.

Make sure to write your name on the back of the photo.

Also make a photocopy of your driver's license to submit with the application.

/and if you're good with photoshop, you can even make yourself look better than you already do!
