I really wonder how shooting him would have played out. If I had drawn and he then asked if I were a cop, and then he still came toward me, I probably would have dropped him. In the aftermath, I can see either the cops seeing the crack/meth head dead as an inconvenience to my day, or that I am a menace with my firearm. From the you shot=you're bad camp's perspective, you could have got in your car and drove off, even after drawing. That would equal jail and trial. Sad, but that's is the likely result.

Just musing..not second guessing....glad you are ok.

No, this only shows that OC is not a guaranteed deterrent. It has no bearing on the fact that OC may be a deterrent in another situation.

Half-way through giving up 135 bucks of the company's money, I see him. White guy, 23-28, 130 lbs, 5.11 or so,skin drawn tight over very small muscles, hollow eyes , deep set in their sockets, aimless shuffle to the gait. This is the guy who they were thinking of when they coined the term "skel". It is short for skeleton. He fit the bill. He shuffles toward me and the gas station/convenience store. He notices me and I watch him closely, but not obviously. I don't want to attract him. I have found that they are kind of like bees, you swat at them and they will be drawn to you.
He saw me watching him and angled toward me. DAMN! Here comes the confrontation. He gets to within 20 feet and I turn so he gets the full view of my weapon in it's leather holster on my right hip. He gets to within 10 feet and I have unsnapped the holster and my hand is fully on the weapon, safeties are off, the hammer is back. He follows my arm down and sees it. Instant reaction, he freezes. I spot the screwdriver in his hand. I instantly decide I don't need a full tank nearly as much as I need to have the gas nozzle pointed at this guy. I drew the gas nozzle out and aimed it at him, though I don't think he figured it out. It takes him a 3 count to get out the words: "Damn dude, you are strapped". "Yes, I am". "Are you a cop?" I answer "no" and just as quickly regret it. He moves in and I am forced to draw. I keep it pointed right at his feet, and he freezes, so I hold it at that aim-point. If he moves, I'll bring it up and give hime the first 4 rounds at the same time I will also coat him in gasoline. At any rate, he isn't going to be telling any lies to the cops. He backs up and turns and took off running. I left the area just as quickly. Damn, Pittsgurgh and all of it's little neighborhoods used to be really friendly. I guess drugs and weak willed liberal democrats have ruined more than one good city.
Glad he finally had the sense to turn and run. I think I would have answered the "are you a cop" question with "Does it really matter"

you should have reported it, the Dormont response time is good and the PD office is close by. you do know that the pump area there is filmed, right? If some jerk anti on the station staff viewed the film and decided to make a stink about your weapon and actions, It's your word about what happened against whatever they could spin the footage as appearing.

probably not a problem, but certainly a potential one. the first reporter of an incident usually becomes the complainant by default!

Now you did it, before long this thread will degenerate into a Kirk/Picard and Spock/Data debate. Before that happened, I just want to point out that THEY ALL OC'D SO IT DOESNT MATTER WHICH CREW WAS BETTER lol.

Just goes to show you the power of drugs also. I would have called the local PD and atleast reported it. Anytime my gun leaves my holster and pointed at a would be mugger, Im going to call the local PD. That way someone just standing around or in a car somewhere that dosent know the extent of the situation dosent call the cops saying that guy over there point a gun and that other guy. Glad your ok though
*bold is mine

It means nothing of the sort. It did deter the guy, until he found out the guy was not a cop, and for whatever reason, then disregarded the weapon. What OC does not deter, are mental cases. Just because a drugged out loser picked a target, then hesitated at the sight of the gun, then associated him not being a cop with he was not a threat, but then took off when the weapon was leveled at him, does not equal OC not being a deterrent.
