I don't think that quote is intended the way your reading it... As mentioned above, it is a famous quote about mindset. Not sure where it originated but I have seen it in the "Marine Corps Rules of Gunfighting" among other places.

It's a mindset that I share In that it is simply to have a backup plan and ability to fight your way out of the unexpected. Nt an anti -OC type of thing. At least that's my take on it.

I'm more concerned about the attitude of some of the others in those threads. Even the OP of the first two links raises some concern...

What is he "not too excited" about? Free men exercising their rights, within the law? What's not to be excited about there?

But after I told my wife, she reminded me we were going to our over to our new neighbor's house for a party. I haven't met them yet, so it may be interesting

I might be way off base, but if I had to venture a guess, the original OP in those threads seems to be our own DaveM55. And I read it as if he was starting off as if he had a problem with it, as if to see the reactions. Again, I could be wrong....

I was not surprised to see those reactions. "You won't find a bigger supporter of 2A rights, but....." "If somebody wants to be the bullet trap...." "It's just dumb" " Sounds like a bunch of show boaters.....".....

Police, in general, whether they know the law or not, don't like OC and will often go out of their way to make sure you understand just how much they don't think you should do it. Right or wrong, that is just the way it seems to me.

Thanks for the reference..

In Combat with the enemy, I would agree 100%.

Maybe understanding the frame of mind of someone (LEO) who makes that statement would be beneficial.

I understand that Philadelphia PD will think differently then Oley / Fleetwood PD would.

Thanks for the reply!

It's National Open Carry Weekend as well from what I understand, I'll be making many stops during the morning to plan for the get together that night, before I head into work for the day. The town will be buzzing and everyone will be out getting prepared. Not a better time to exercise my 2nd amendment rights.

I just had a thought, and its a little late for this year, but wouldn't the anniversary of the day the Constitution took effect be the most perfect day for an Open Carry Day?

http://usinfo.state.gov/products/pub.../ratifying.htm

Quote:
Less than three months after the Constitution was signed, Delaware became the first state to ratify it, on December 7, 1787. New Hampshire was the ninth state, putting the Constitution into effect on June 21, 1788.
Or even the day on which it was signed?

http://usinfo.state.gov/products/pub...convention.htm

Quote:
Of the 55 delegates, 39 signed the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
It seems that since it is that document that declares, defines, and defends our right, that we should celebrate on a day of historical importance for it.

Looks like Ohio is going through some similar problems with officers not knowing the law.

Link

Sergeant: "I gotta hear a rationalization for this."
Bryan: "I don’t know if I need one"
Sergeant: "Don't know if you need one? I'm asking for one, I, damn straight, you need one."(sic)

While Bryan is talking about the Second Amendment:
Sergeant: "Shut up, don’t talk to me about that, I taught the goddamn class. It doesn’t allow you to walk around with it exposed."

Sergeant: "Bottom line is you made a piss-poor decision. It has to be concealed."

Sergeant: "You are not abiding by the guidelines of this permit. Do you want me to call the Sheriff and have it revoked?.... You’re not abiding by the law. It’s gotta be concealed."

Sergeant: "Are you going to kneel there and argue with me all goddamn day? … How about nodding your head and saying 'OK, yeah I won’t do it again'."
