The responding traffic cops had 100% no clue of the law or how to proceed.
I must say Larry, Taurus, and myself were not happy and stated that to the officers. The one cop Larry and myself were talking to was very professional he was not DC police but from another town. DC Last edited by Damage control; July 18th, 2008 at 02:47 PM. |

Second, count me among those who are glad it happened to you. You are a staunch advocate for gun rights and know just what your rights are. I have to admit though, and I mean no disrespect, I was also glad it happened to you because you got to see first hand that negative OC encounters can and do happen, no matter what is right, and/or legal. PA is a large state with many police departments, in my small county (Delaware) there are 49 municipalities, 39 with a full time police department and one with a part time police department. The rest are covered by the PSP or a neighboring towns department. There are 67 counties in PA. Lots of police departments, and a lot of misinformed police officers. Hopefully what happened last night will eventually help to inform even the smallest of departments in this commonwealth just what is and isn't legal in PA when it comes to ALL gun laws. The real sad part of all this, and the many other negative encounters, as a citizen, ignorance of a law is no excuse for breaking it, however those who are responsible to uphold the law aren't often held to the same standard. Keep fighting the good fight. Bill

+1 to 1rcm!
I can totally seeing the response by Police going this way. Until I found PAFOA, I was unaware that OC was even an option. I never heard of it, and still havent seen anyone do it. (I now keep a copy of the PA gun rights pamphlet in my file folder for work )As a current LEO, I know many of my collegues are also blissfully unaware of citizens gun rights. Although I have my own tactical opinions of OC vs CC, I feel I have a better understading of the PA law since joining the forum. Something I didnt get fully in the Academy (concerning gun laws). Which brings me to my point. However things go with PA Patriot, his legal action should call for some updated training for law enforcement. All PA police go through mandatory yearly training. That would be a prime opportunity to get the right information to LEO's. The below link is the site for the state commision that oversees the training. http://www.mpoetc.state.pa.us/mpotrs/site/default.asp How about and update and training on the law and ways to respond to situations like this? I'm sure that, in it's self, would be a long process to have implemented, but I would be worth it. |

![]() One question though, what about the rest of the officers in your division? I am just wondering if you have helped educate them as to our rights?

I really don't think the mpoetc will do anything to change their training until a bunch of LEOs get their pee-pee whacked real good. This could be it. I hate to pile anything more onto PA Patriot but once the smoke clears and the suits are settled he should be the one to send the mpoetc a package with a nice cover letter explaining how and why their training is insufficient. Perhaps we can enlist the AG in informing the DAs that the data base is incomplete and it's not sufficient cause to take a firearm. I have a Colt 1991A1 that is not in their data base. However it is buried somewhere in the CA DOJ data base. Sadly the store I bought from no longer exists.

HOLY MONKEY SHIT!!!!!!!!
The wife didn't get back until 6 so we didn't go. WOW! I can't leave you guys alone for one little meal... Rich- If you need anything that is in my power to do, it's yours. I would say I'm sorry it happened to you, but I am pretty sure you have dreamed of this moment. How are the kids and the Mrs. doing? Were they able to deal with it pretty well? The kids I mean, as I am sure your wife was probably in pitbull mode Again, if you need something and I can help, please give me a ring. You have been a big influence in my understanding of my rights in this state and in getting me to do my own research. If there is anyone I would trust to turn this into something to benefit us all, it would be you. Thanks, bro.D.C.- Sorry I missed this and meeting you guys. I am sure you did fine, don't sweat it. It's kinda weird, I was fine all day then I got sick around 7:30 and wasn't any better until after 10:00. That about the time frame this went down? WOW.
