That argument always reminds me of the bad guys from the old Death Wish movies with Charlie Bronson. I don't think the vast majority of criminals are that bold and brazen. They have a50/50 chance of being shot themselves. Why not just pick an easy target? I worry more about cops.

It's a common belief.
It makes a LOT of sense if you think about it. Well, if you only think about it for a split second... if you think about it a little more, you realize that things aren't that cut and dry. Most people prefer not to think that much. Thinking hurts.
