(rant) If there's one thing I've learned...

...it's that assholes never stop being assholes.

My neighbor across the street is one of them - dyed in the friggin' wool, man. He even looks like he's an asshole, he just has an assholey face. His voice even makes him sound like an asshole in a Dennis Leary sort of way.

This is the guy who not only doesn't care that his daughter drives the wrong way down a one way street every day to avoid a two block end-around that EVERYONE ELSE tolerates, but goes to the length of defending her driving habits after it's brought to his attention that she's nearly causing accidents in the process.

Yeah, I reeeeeally don't like this guy.

Anyway, I had the dog out this morning for a walk, and saw a piece of paper taped to an ajoining apartment door. It's an eviction notice for someone who refuses to pay rent. While I was reading it, I was standing with my strong side towards them, and I briefly overhead Asshole talking to his carpool buddy across the street. I only caught bits and pieces of it, but this is what I heard.

"...gonna get fucked up one day..............doesn't fuckin' listen to the cops....."

And then they disappeared behind his truck, so the audio was cut off.

Now, I'm not the type to get in someone's face about something I think they said when I don't know them or like them, and I can't make any reasonable articulable determination of what they were talking about anyway, so I just continued walking my dog. On the way back to the apartment, they were standing there, sucking their cancer sticks, watching me walk.

"Good morning!" I shouted across the street. I tried my best to not look like I was forcing myself to be nice.

There was a hesitation. Asshole just exhaled his addiction-gas, but then Asshole's friend said "Good morning" back. I turned and walked away with Archie (my dog).

"That's a pretty good video, I mean audio, you have on YouTube," Asshole called out.

I stopped and turned back to see the look on his face when I said my reply. "The judge didn't think so. She thought he was being a dick. But thanks!"

Fucker.

You need not recognize the redeeming qualities in something in order to not be bigoted against it. But, note that I'm only half serious here as well.

Yep, there is little you can do about such people except not let their opinions cause you to change yourself. My own prolem nieghbor is the one who defended their son when he stole my daughter's bike. No apology, no anything. I guess in a few more years they'll be wondering what went wrong. Ya just can't be an asshole without it biting you in the ass.
