I wouldn't use ultrasonic couplant. Most of the stuff we have is vegetable based I think. Sometimes you can smell it going rancid. Try water, grease, shaving cream, or a commercial suppressor product.
What's the proplem with ut couplant? It's water based. I would think anything you would put in a can would make a mess.

There are lots of good suggestions out there. Maybe the real question is, why do you want to instead use ultrasonic testing couplant?

It's just my gut. I'll check what ours is tomorrow. Our stuff gets rancid on the shelf, I think it has vegetable oil. Me, I'd rather use something either polar or non-polar. It would either be protective or easy to clean out. I don't want something that forms colloids easily, foams, milks, or is organic but still absorbs moisture. This is not based on any suppressor experience, just experience with machines. And not with ultrasonic testing couplant, just vegetable based fluids in general.

"water based" means a lot of things.

My comment probably had no real use, sorry. Just thinking about the stuff on our shelf and that I don't want it in my suppressor.

its in a confined space! i can discern discharge, slide action and target noise. its just not very consistent, some shots sound really good-while other are much louder. i tried ut couplant and it works great! its movie quite.

It's a liquid used to interface an ultrasonic transceiver with a surface. Not sure if he is referring to ultrasonic thickness testing (what we use), ultrasound imaging, or something else.
