Default Luzerne County Sherriff Signoff is now a GO

Good news for Luzerne County!!!!

I was asked by the Luzerne County's Sheriffs Department to disseminate the news.

Sheriff Savokinas finally had an opportunity to seriously consider doing NFA paperwork signoffs and has decided to he will indeed signoff.

This service will provide those in Luzerne County a great convenience by offering a central POC for NFA signoffs.

The department is working on devising a standard operating procedure (SOP) for NFA signoffs. A nominal fee may be assessed.

It maybe about 2 weeks before the SOP is up and running.............I will keep you guys posted.

why would there be a fee assessed? (unless its for prints, my PD charges $15 for prints)

the person doing the paperwork is providing all the stuff, all the Sheriff has to do is sign the form, and date it.

whats a ballpoint BIC cost, and how many sigs can you get out of one?

Well, you have to pick your battles. There are thousands of Philadelphia and MontCo and I'm sure residents of other places, who would leap at the chance to pay a nominal fee and get a signature.

I admit that it's like being grateful that someone just spit on you instead of stabbing you, but in the grand scheme of NFA, it's a minor speed bump. Pay $200 for the tax stamp, $10,000 for the average MG, and $10 or $20 for a signature isn't worth getting excited over.

In an ideal world, new MG's would cost $700, the Feds wouldn't tax the exercise of your Constitutional rights, and we could bitch about any fees for the routine (and mandatory) Sheriff's confirmation of what is readily determinable from other sources. We don't live there yet. When I'm Benevolent Dictator of the United States, this will all change.

In an ideal world, you wouldn't need a LEO sign-off, either.

I have no problem with offering your local LEO a chance to opine on why you shouldn't have an MG or grenade launcher, as long as he's able to point out specific facts. If someone has a clean record, but is known to be a major drug dealer and the indictment is just weeks away, then maybe the Sheriff can stop it. But just because he doesn't like NFA toys would not be enough.

But otherwise, as I noted, the check is superfluous.
- We know he's the CLEO for your area.
- We know that PA allows all NFA except bombs.
-We know that you have a clean record.
We don't need the local CLEO for any of that, and the fact that he can veto your acquisition simply by sitting on his hands is absurd.

Fairness would turn the optional signoff into a call from ATF asking if he has any sufficient reason to stop the transfer. Until then, I'll keep creating LLC's and corps for people, and we can leave the CLEO in the dark.

Good news and if my suspicions are correct Thanks Chris for your efforts in helping this process become a reality for Luzerne County.

This benevolent dictator is more of a strippers-and-cheerleaders kind of guy, but I'll keep you in mind if I go the jester route.

Jiggling beats juggling, every time.
