Default Any market for a converted AR-15?

Back in 1984, I purchased two NFA firearms, or rather, I purchased two semi-automatic firearms and had them converted to full-auto.

One was an Uzi Pistol and the other was a Colt AR-15 A2 Sporter II. I sold the Uzi in the late 80's and I still have the Colt.

I would like to get a feel for if there is any market for this weapon and how much it could be worth. Obviously, I would have to do a lot of research before I sold it, but maybe you guys know off hand... ball park.

By way of background, the rifle was converted by Hard Times Armory. This was when I lived in Atlanta and I don't know if Hard Times Armory even exists anymore. I chose NOT to have the receiver modified, which means that I chose the "drop in" auto sear route. I did not have "Full" stamped on the receiver. The receiver is totally UNMODIFIED. The original bolt carrier was modified and the trigger, hammer, disconnect, and select lever were replaced (did I forget any parts?). Only the drop-in serial no. is described on the original (and only) Form 4, not the receiver's serial number. I haven't fired this weapon in over 5 years and have fired fewer than 300 rounds through it total.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ok, sit down for this one.

Sitting down yet?

Legally Registered Drop In Auto-Sears are going for anywhere from $11,000 to $15,000 (depending on how fast one wants to sell it.) The market for DIAS's has gone up recently.

From what you described, you obviously have all the paperwork and whatnot so you have a legally registered DIAS and you should be good to go selling it if you want.

With that said, unless I really needed the cash I'd never sell a legally registered machine-gun.

I'm speechless.

Thank you SO much for the quick response.

BTW, I lost my job and may soon be in the position where I would have to sell. That will be new territory for me though. Over the years, I've loved to buy guns but never have sold any!

Thanks again for your input.

P.S. I was a federal enforcement officer in a former life and yes, of course, everything it completely above board and legal.

Well merry early Christmas, it's not too often I get to tell someone their gun is worth 5 digits without them already knowing.

Your first order of business should be to check out http://www.subguns.com/ and more specifically their NFA Discussion Forum. It's by far the best website on the internet for everything related to owning NFA Items (Machineguns, etc). Any questions you have will be answered quickly and correctly by the members of that site.

the DIAS price is a mite high, they are going $9-11K right now, reg receivers of quality M16s are big money, in the $12-17K range depending on maker, usually Colt factory guns in great condition.

the SP1 conversions and Off brand conversion RRs are still $9-13K, and those 30 cents worth of hacksaw blades known as lighting links are going $7-9K.

prices are crazy.

Ok, maybe i'm going crazy, I thought DIAS's were getting 12k easily the past two or three months? Wasn't there a huge spike in people buying them up?

Did I imagine this or have they fallen again?

Either way I think Rags is pleasantly surprised.

I would be willing to pay twice what you paid for it.

If you knew how many deals I passed up back in the early 80s - you guys would shoot me.

I looked for RDIASs for months. I saw one for $11,500; it was a garage workshop sear, and it went quick. I saw some for $15k, and one for $18k with host gun. When I found a steel one for $13,500, I went for it.
