Velocity, overall bullet design, or even the shape of the nose of the bullet will go through a vest.. ...pointy bullets tend to pierce much easier than blunt objects. Just take a stick that is sharpened on one end. The pointy end will pierce you, while the blunt end wont even though its the same projectile.

I've pushed .357mag 125gr JHP's so fast that they went through a the front of kevlar vest, including a trauma plate.

5.56 FMJs are heavier, not lighter than 5.7 loads.
I meant lighter in reference to most 5.56mm bullets ("on the lighter end of the spectrum"), not necessarily lighter than 5.7 bullets.

Good question. Her's was obviously more devastating.

I also have been hearing all day that she was shot in the legs and the arm. Where there is no body armor.

Somehow I doubt FN's method of restricting the ammo to military and police is simply requiring any one of the 3.2 million people with police or military ID to show it to the UPS man when he drops off the ammo.

Right .

The ammo is restricted to law enforcement and military AGENCIES not individual officers .

when they described the gun he used this morning on the morning show they said it was a "semi-automatic pistol known as a high caliber cop killer". really? is that necessary? if you only realized how stupid it made you look.
