Why did they go on lockdown after the suicide. It's not as if he was going to get back up and go on a rampage.

My question too....they lock down the WHOLE building due to a suicide in ONE room? And what are they investigating?....to determine if maybe this prof and witness are in cahoots and actually murdered this student?

If they didn't investigate, and later some evidence surfaced that pointed toward foul play (no matter how obscure or doubtful), many people would be out of a job and the family would be devastated. I think it's about crossing their t's and dotting their i's.

I imagine his biggest reaction was relief that it wasn't him. When a grad student flips out, usually he kills his thesis advisor. Ten years of slave labor, and then being told you may never be getting your degree after all, does that to a person. My thesis advisor used to say, "Truly speaking, it is the advisor's fault. Who lets a person work and work for years and years when he knows usually in few minutes that this person will never make PhD?"
