I just saw this on Ch. 27 news. This guy must give up his guns...for what???
http://www.abc27.com/news/stories/0607/432902.html Harrisburg, Dauphin County - A woman had a conversation with a man about recent car break-in's on HACC's campus about a week ago. The man told her nobody better break into his car because he had a gun and ammo in there and it would be worse than Virginia Tech. The woman saw the man on HACC's campus Tuesday and told another woman, who then reported it to security. HACC security officers found the man at the Cooper Student Union working on a laptop around 11:30 a.m. He is not a student at the school. Security officials watched the man and called Harrisburg police. When police officers arrived, they found the man with a loaded 9 mm handgun in his computer bag. Police say he has a permit to carry. They also found a ski mask and black gloves. When police searched his car, they found another loaded 9 millimeter handgun with a mask and a second pair of black gloves. Assistant District Attorney Fran Chardo says the man will not be charged with making terroristic threats. He said the man didn't really threaten anyone, he was simply making a statement. The man was taken to a mental hospital for an evaluation. His guns were seized and he'll have to transfer them to someone else. HACC sent out a statement to faculty Tuesday alerting them to the situation. Guns are not allowed on HACC's campus, even if the owner has a permit. |

Is it really illegal to carry a gun on campus? haven't we covered that before? Why can't he own guns anymore? He didn't threaten anyone just said if someone stole his guns and ammo it would be worse than vt. He didn't say he was going to do it.. When did this happen? |

From the link:
I quote from the Patriot News: Asst. D.A. Fran Chardo: I contacted the sheriff and had his license to carry a firearm revoked" Chardo continued, "He is now ineligible to possess firearms because he was committed involuntarily (psychiatric evaluation)" ^ Absurd in my opinion. Because of a sentence he uttered, he is now barred for life from owning a firearm. Granted, guns are not permitted on college campuses due to many of their regulations. Hence, this is private property. They needed only to ask him to leave, if he did not leave then they could have him arrested for tresspassing. But this all has nothing to do with his right to own guns. Can anyone find what they ruled his mental condition as? I'll say again though, unless he favored wearing ski masks for no reason, that was a little suspicious.

last i checked, no permit was needed for a ski mask and gloves - the way the media blows things out of whack, the "ski mask" was probably just a winter hat or a pair of black underwear.................this is what i call abuse of power - i hope he sues them and gets a huge stack............
btw - is it possible to have the involuntary admittance changed if it is found that the PD and DA acted in the wrong? it seems like they're really starting to abuse the law and their power - so much for helping the public - this type of thing REALLY pisses me off!!

It's odd that the guy has these things in his car and you have to admit that he is not exactly being wise when he says things like "worse than Virginia Tech", but this is just one woman's word against his. The masks and gloves are weird, but if he has a LTCF then he obviously has never been arrested for robbing anyone. You know it gets cold in PA in the winters. Maybe he was just trying to keep warm? My problem with revoking someone's LTCF for being involuntarily committed is that there seems to be an abscence of the checks and balances that exist in other situations. What if he was involuntarily committed and then found to have a healthy, stable disposition? What recourse is available to him to try to appeal this decision?

This is something that happened 6 months ago, wasn't it?
Turns out the guy had been visited by the LEO's several times due to neighbor's complaints. The consensus then was he may have had some mental issues. But I do know this is an old old story |

this story is from june so its very odd he had ski masks, and who knows they may have stopped something, or they may have screwed over yet another innocent person we'll never know... but none the less being 302'ed is one of the biggest problems to gun owners, you can loose that right before even stepping into see a shrink. from what i've heard as long as you say yes i'll go and as long as the shrink clars you yur not gonna loose any rights?!?!
