Minnesota man shoots unmarked cop after an altercation on the roadway. The officer drew his weapon and the citizen fired shots in defense. He possessed and LTCF and the officer apparently did not identify himself.
It's lacking a lot of necessary information but a good story to follow. http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_159164139.html

bad situation all around.... this is one of those things that unless it was caught on video noone will ever know the whole truth... the officer says the guy in the car with his family pulled his gun on him according to the video i just watched

Yeah, that has to be what happened. A cop would never lie to save his own ass, would he?
There was another recent incident of a cop with road rage, who shot a guy six or seven times from his own vehicle but who knows, maybe the other guy called him a bad name. What ever happened to a good old fist fight? |

there was that NFL player that was shot by an of duty cop a few months back because he thought he was DUI and started to follow him and was yelling to pull over.... i'm all for cops doing there job, but you need to wait for a marked unit in those situations.. and if you have no choice you need to very clearly ID yourself

I am HUGELY opposed to plainclothes officers and unmarked police cars. It's cops hiding from the public. So cops can patrol traffic but can't citizens aren't able to solicit them for assistance or help? It's wrong and only serves to confuse citizens.
I'm not saying there's no use for plainclothes officers but they certainly shouldn't have any authority on the road as such.

The cop in question was supposedly undercover. His identity is not being divulged. There's a good thread on The High Road on this one...here's the link. |

Seems like both parties are guilty here. However, cops are supposed to have an SOP, and I'd like to think identifying oneself as a LEO prior to drawing down on someone would be part of that SOP.
Not trying to be down on the LEOs, but let's be honest: LEOs enjoy some benefits that regular citizens don't. IMHO they should be held to a slightly higher standard.

Who knows where this one is going to end. The whole story is troubling.
There is no excuse for an officer to engage himself in a road rage incident, let alone get out of his vehicle, and draw a weapon afterwards. It must have unfolded pretty much as described otherwise I'm sure the shooter would have been charged. I think the issue should be whether the officer was justified drawing his weapon. There are plenty of situations where nuts pretend to be LEO's. The fact that both were already hot, and that the officer escalated the situation without the backup of a marked car, to me is troubling.

And then the officer didn't ID himself as a police officer before pulling his gun. I wonder what all the dialogue was between them to force the officer to pull his gun.
