Default Pennsylvania School District Eliminates Rifle Team!

FYI, I put this here and not in the county forum because I thought it would be interesting for others who may not see it if it were posted there:

Recently, the Abington Heights School District eliminated the rifle team from the Abington Heights High School because of cost restraints. The School Board did not give any prior notice or allow the public and the team’s members the opportunity to voice their concerns and support for the program.

Please contact the Superintendent of Schools, Michael Mahon at (570) 585-8251 and respectfully urge him to reconsider the decision to eliminate the Abington Heights High School Rifle Team by allowing open, public discussion on the issue.

Also, don’t forget to contact the School Board Directors, Cathy Hathaway (President), Jody DeRitter (Vice-President), Louise Brzuchalski (Treasurer), Michele Tierney (Secretary), Warren Acker, Jeanne Cadman, Kenneth Heron, Elvin LaCoe, and Earl Van Wert by mail at 200 East Grove Street, Clarks Summit, PA 18411 and respectfully remind them that competitive rifle shooting is a time honored tradition that needs to be preserved.

Another backroom deal without anyone knowing. Love when they slip things in like this.

Perhaps they should raise taxes for a legitimate purpose for switch.

This sucks. I shot rifle team in high school. I loved it. It's also where I met my wife.

I sincerely hope that the parents and kids take action. That's a such a cheap shot by the school board.

For those of you who live in that district...tell them to reduce the football team's budget to accomodate the rifle team...or soccer or another sport.
Even better, a little from each other sport...that way, all teams can still play!

A noble suggestion, but it'll never happen.

[SARCASM] Shudder the thought that a single penny be diverted from the almighty Football budget! [/SARCASM]

Yeah, football before education or any other sport. That's why Seneca Arms had the opportunity to sell off the rifles from our local H.S. years back. But the good news is the coaches have a suite of offices just for themselves.

Cost restraints my ass. Rifle is an extremely cheap sport, with the major cost being bus fuel for the away matches. This is total BS. The real reason of course is the post-Virginia Tech hysteria. These dipshits are affraid of someone going on a killing spree with his single-shot .22.
