Police: 7 teens shot near Detroit school

At least five of the teens, including the two in critical condition, had just gotten out of summer classes at Cody Ninth Grade Academy when they were shot at the nearby bus stop, said Detroit Public Schools Police Chief Roderick Grimes.

Two gunmen, possibly three, emerged from the green minivan and "asked for a person by name" before they "opened fire at the crowd," Detroit Police spokesman Rod Liggons told WXYZ-TV.

The students' names and ages weren't immediately released.

"We have confirmed the name of several of the students, but we have to make sure we talk with the parents," Detroit Public Schools emergency financial manager Robert Bobb said at the scene of the shooting on Detroit's west side.

Bria Wilson, 15, was standing at the bus stop when she heard the gunfire. Wilson said she was facing away from the shooters and ran away after the shots were fired. She said she saw a 16-year-old male friend lying on the ground, bleeding.

"They were so close — it almost hit me," said Wilson, who was heading home from summer school classes at Cody Academy.

Who could possibly imagine gun violence in Detroit? I thought that was a gun-safe city and a mecca of peace?

Dammit I hate to read things like this... I wonder what it is going to take for these politicians to get their heads out of their asses...What if it were their kid who got shot? I guarantee if a responsible gun carrying citizen were there to witness this it would have turned out a lot better for those kids...

Every time something like this happens, I hold my breath waiting to see the likes of Biden, Rendell, Schummer, and all the other shit bags, jump in front of a TV camera and tell the country how we need more gun control

I have to disagree. I think a responsible firearm owner wouldn't have risked others by engaging these idiots. Too many variables to take into account. Get you and yours down on the deck and covered/concealed.

The scum did what they were there to do, and left.

That's tough to say. It sounds like the way the scenario took place with multiple shooters, the average responsible gun owner would not have had a good chance to stop what happened single handedly (unless of course it was the movies ). I really don't think the average gun owner has enough training to tactically neutralize multiple shooters in the scenario described (I know I don't). It sounds like this was a planned "hit" and the shooters had a great advantage.
That's not saying that if the attack happened against me or my family, I wouldn't respond to try to save us.

I agree with MichaelJ, make sure you and yours survive.

Maybe not, but dont you think if someone fired a few shots into the van that was shooting the kids, it would not shake them up, and send them speeding away as fast as they could drag their sorry asses? I dont expect one guy to take out 3-4 shooters, but i dont think they sound like the kind of people who like to risk much, as soon as they would be shot at, i'd think they would be out of there!!
