Thumbs up Our Permits May soon be legal in W.V.

Important Pro-Gun Bills Pass West Virginia Legislature!

Friday, March 16, 2007

Last week was the end of the legislative session in West Virginia and two important piece of legislation were passed. These bills now are on their way to the desk of Governor Joe Manchin (D).

House Bill 3074 will amend reciprocity requirements as well as authorize the Attorney General to execute reciprocity agreements with other states pertaining to the recognition of permits to carry concealed handguns.

House Bill 2348 prohibits any government agency from suspending our Second Amendment rights during any state of emergency.

I would think that it be a priority between WV and PA both to work a reciprocity aggreement.

It makes lots of sense...

Delaware passed a reciprocity law 3 years ago. I tried to mount a write in campaign to AG Fisher at the time, but there was little interest from the locals.

We still can't carry into Delaware.

DELAWARE CONCEALED DEADLY WEAPONS RECIPROCITY

Pursuant to 11 Del.C. § 1441(j), as of July 11, 2003, Delaware law allows residents of other states who have been issued a concealed deadly weapon license or permit by certain other states to lawfully carry concealed deadly weapons in Delaware if the state that issued the permit or license also recognizes Delaware's concealed deadly weapons licenses, and if Delaware's Attorney General also determines that the concealed deadly weapons licensing or permit laws in the issuing state "afford a reasonably similar degree of protection as is provided by licensure in Delaware." The Attorney General has determined that only states that require proof of training in firearms safety as a part of their licensing or permit process can meet this requirement.

I hope it passes. I haven't been to WV yet simply because I can't carry there.

Well that is unfortunate, but at least I now know our AG wasn't just dragging his feet.

Thanks for the education. Guess I need to go edit my post in the CCW forum.

I wouldn't go back if I couldn't carry. The state in general is just spookey. Even traveling through the capitol it just has that backwoods charm. Can't describe it exactly, but when they base a ghost story happening in WV I can tell why. If you have seen the movie Silent Hill, it honestly seems like that.

I went there once for white water rafting. Quite fun, even though it was 30 degrees out and the water was 40 degrees.

Hmmm...I wonder if the Florida License safety training qualifies according to their AG's "standards".
It would be "nice" to be able to just drive armed from PA to FLA!

WV right now I think only has rep with Virginia and Kentucky, Kentucky doesn't issue out of state permits and WV doesn't honor Virginias out of state permit.

I'm just trying to pull that out of memory. I think thats how it was half a year ago, cause I was looking at states I can carry in wiht my FL and I was really confused with WV. They made it hard to find a way to carry.
