Man kills wife, then attacks gun-wielding neighbor

Denise Bala, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene, Houser said.

Before she died, neighbors came out and tried to stop the conflict, police said.

One in particular, Leo Rushton, grabbed his handgun and told John Bala, 45, to sit down and wait for police to arrive, Houser said. Instead, John Bala chased after Rushton with the hunting knife shouting, "Kill me, kill me, kill me," Houser said.

After firing two rounds and missing, Rushton shot John Bala in the upper left shoulder, police said.

Bala then stabbed himself with his knife several times.

Good intent, radio says no charges to be filed against the pistol carrier.
