given that her website has a banner on it that says "guns hate life', i would not at all be surprised to find out that she is actually as anti-gun as nutter... but, in spite of that, she is respecting rule of law. she earns serious points with me for respecting rule of law even when it means going against her personal opinions (assuming she really is anti-gun...which she may not be...but then she needs to take that "gun task force" banner off her website.) maybe there is some hope for america yet. |

Little Red Toyota:
Don't be enthusiastic one iota about Lynne Abraham. She IS as antigun as they come, believe me. She has done more posturing in front of the cameras with all manner of Ak's and Mac10s. She is a Liberal Democrap through and through, just because she says these laws are unenforceable *duh* does not mean she does not WISH they were. She is only claiming these laws to be unenforceable because they simply are. She does not want to have her prosecutors look like assholes getting trumped in court by opposing counsel using the states own constitution against her. She is doing NOBODY a favor except herself.

we need more politicians who follow rule of law even when it conflicts with their personal opinions. i'm not saying i would vote for her, but she does deserve much credit for respecting rule of law in an environment where rule of law is all but dead. Quote:
she is not doing us favor...she is just doing her duty. but, given the propensity of government officials to not do their duty to uphold rule of law, it is notable when a government official simply upholds rule of law (as sad as that is). |

I hate to smear rose-tinted glasses but likely her stalwart bucking of the system has less to do with her love of the law, but rather the realization that unlike a judge, she has limited immunity from prosecution herself if she misuses the office.
Sorry, she is the last type to do 'the right thing' by gunowners. She has been in her position since Rendell, and worked for the city as far back as Rizzo. Just because she knows what side her bread is buttered, does not create a favorable impression on me, nor does it convince me that her public assessment is anything more than a pre-emptive move to protect her own ass. She sure as shit didn't do it for the average gun owner.

It is refreshing that that she is following the rule of law. Even if, in all probabilty she will somehow assist in writing a law she thinks may pass muster. Be safe. Scott |

My understanding is of now, that people can and may be charged with firearms violations, and will have their firearms taken by the police. Knowing Philly, I don't think the police will return them without as many delaying tactics as possible. Will the DA's office assist you in the return of your firearms by bringing the personal who have performed the unlawful removal of your firearms up on charges? No, it will be you and your attorney against city hall. Most people in this situation will realise that the cost of the firearm will be far outweighed by the legal costs involved. So Philly gets another firearm off of the street, and you are spending your hard earned tax dollars for another firearm.
I also think that mayor Nutter should be more careful about the thoughts he places in his subjects heads when he quotes the founding fathers. He would not appreciate the way the founding fathers would react to his kingly decrees. |

Most importantly, name them this way: Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Mr. Charles Ramsey. Make them pay personally. There is no immunity issue as they know good and well their actions are illegal. If they didn't know it before, they darn sure know it now- the District Attorney advised them of that fact in as public a fashion as possible. |

what would the assault weapon ban mean for persons who already own them? if it did actually go through.

you would basically have to either: 1. move out of the city 2. store them outside of the city and not ever bring them into to city. 3. donate them to the philly PD. 4. tell 'em to shove it and face the potential ramifications of course, you don't need to worry about it because that law is never going to actually take effect. |
