I don't like the issue of denying gun ownership on this basis, it is being used more and more to bar people from owning them. Look at returning soldiers and the fairly recent ptsd label.
There may be some people who genuinely would be more dangerous armed than if unarmed, but I haven't heard a method by which to bar the dangerous ones exclusively and allow the good citizen types.
I think it goes without saying though, the "crazed gunman terrorist" wouldn't be so scary if everyone else was a "sane skilled gun toting citizen."
I personally think the current laws on this issue are a bid restrictive as there isn't really a process of appeal to my knowledge.

It's sad when we see this happen, yes. But I whole-heartedly agree with what has been said above.
I about got killed coming home one night by a drunk driver, after almost having to draw down on some people at work I knew to be armed and refused to leave...keeping their hands concealed. Needless to say, I was shaken up pretty good and probably would have benefited from talking to someone....should that mean I can't own guns?
Take guys coming back from the war, people mourning the loss of a loved one....it's a slippery slope when we start prohibiting people from owning guns cause they're going through a rough time.
The true crazy-ass killers are gonna go downtown and buy a stolen hi-point anyway if they wants to go out and hurt someone.
They've been having the "war on drugs" for how long now? And how many thousands of tons of Cocaine, Heroin, Marijuana, Meth, etc have been smuggled, bought and sold on the streets? And some how we think we're gonna eliminate guns from the black-market? Lets not delude ourselves, now.
