We could always just stop the "war on drugs", put drug dealers (mostly) out of bussiness. Leave that $$$ in the peoples pockets, so that one earner can support a family again. Not only would single moms have more options, but you could have 2, yes thats right, count them 2 parents raise a child.
When both struggle just to make ends meet there is little time for real parenting. Reduce the tax burden, strenghthen the family strong families make strong communities you can see where this sort of trail leads. my heart goes out the those children, born innocent, who will grow up without a mother. and probally without a father.

Stopping the "war on drugs" solves nothing, but neither does continue fighting it... what is the alternative? I dont have one. Do you? In dealing with addicts for years, I can tell you that legal or not, the drugs control are in control of their minds, not them. Addiction is a horrible thing. As for the OP, a sad situation that we will never know every detail. Police shooting behind closed doors... There are two sides to every story, and we will never hear the mother's side. The article was full of holes, though. It doesnt say if the shooting was justified or not, does it? Doesnt say whether or not they arrested the boyfriend, does it? Everyone assumes bad things right away. The media has a way of spinning articles, we all know that, we just forget sometimes. Innocent until proven guilty goes both ways. In most police departments, officers involved in a fatal shooting are given paid leave regardless of whether it was a good shoot or not. They need to be examined by a licensed psychiatrist/psychologist to see if they are fit for duty. Dont jump to conclusions and break your legs in the process. My favorite part of the article (and I am paraphrasing) was that people are starting to carry weapons to defend themselves. GOOD FOR THEM! It is their God given and constitutional right to carry! |

you legalize drugs (some say all, others say just some) and allow them to be regulated and taxed. just like liquor. No-one is selling vodka on any street corners i know of. And we all know how great prohibition was for the mob.
Some would say you can turn around and spend the tax money raised on the sale of drugs on treatment programs. I have heard worse ideas. My main point though was not about drugs and treatment, although related. It was to relieve the tax burden spent on useless government programs to allow more freedom to the citizen.

Gosh, what a nice exchange of ideas and points of view. I didn't see once, any name calling, sarcasm, or any other degrading cyber-attitude. Kudos to all of you for having a nice, clean, intelligent conversation. You should all be proud.

As for the fire and brimstone stuff, yeah, man, it stands out like the fat girl at a frat party. It just doesn't suck like one I personally stay away from most of the insidious damnation, myself. It doesn't do anything but make people believe they have balls that they actually don't. If ya wouldn't say it to someone's face, without fear of being punched in the mouth, don't say it here. Smart fish know that the shiny things usually have hooks in them
