While I usually support seperation of Church and State, this isn't really what it was intended for. They built it, it's a historic thing.. It should be left alone..

It's just common sense.

Now if they wanted to put a big ass cross in the middle of the Washington mall i'd be against it.. But this is something entirely different...

Whether you believe it or not... this country was founded on BIBLICAL principles.... and based on that is the reason why this country has been blessed by God. BUT it is deteriorating because GOD is being removed from goverment, and such, as I stated earlier, from schools also.

This country is the ONLY one in the world that is the most powerful. Now that is common sense. So... you can USALLY support seperation of church and state... but little by little this country is folding because people are not paying reverence to God, even though, like SOME of our forefathers, didn't have faith like some TRUE believers, were blessed along with the TRUE believers.

If it's been there for 50+ years no. I wouldn't want them removed.. It's historical so worth saving.. Not because of what religion it represents but in this case it represents the PEOPLE who build it. It's History, and I for one am always for preserving history in all forms.

If they want to build something NEW that represents one religion with taxpayer money, then yes I would be against it.

And lets not have the "founded on Biblical principles argument again" please.... lol

This is bullshit. I think I'm going to put a huge cross in my yard as a silent protest. Anyone else interested?

Default Re: OUR COUNTRY IS <just fine>

This stuff leaves me cold. If it was up to me I'd let the cross be. I can't see that they put it there for religious purposes, especially. Some old guys have a soft spot in their hearts for it, and that's fine. The ACLU is wasting its time.

But as a general rule, crosses can be put up anywhere on private property. They don't have to be on public property where they make religion a public issue.

All war memorials are not in danger, and our country's way of life isn't threatened by this.

What a bunch of hokum.

See, I don't care what religious symbol is placed anywhere as long as tax dollars are not spent to do it. People flocked to this country for a freedom of religion, not because we declared a national religion.

People on the left seem to be ANTI-Religion which is Anti-American and discriminatory in my opinion. Some folks on the right are ANTI-Anything that is not Christianity which is just as bad. Just my opinion but both of those groups are wrong about this country. We are open arms to any religion, a freedom to practice it, tolerance to accept all of them, and none should be used to guide legislation. That's how I perceive freedom of religion and separation of church and state.

(unless we are talking about Scientology, which are just a bunch of jackholes since they have Tom Cruise )

Didnt it say it was placed there by WW1 vets?
Whats the problem here? The government puts up all kinds of memorials. The vietnam wall was placed by the government. This cross has just a little more meaning because it was placed by the vets themselves.

My view of the ACLU is tainted now with the bullshit story. A roman catholic taking offense to a cross! This isnt a government memorial to go and add other religious symbols to equalize things. It was important to the vets. Still is! Leave it as it is.
