Yes, I believe Jimmy Carter had some character.. But we don't want that road again..

I actually like Fred, just not as President.
The facts IMHO - is they are ALL the same.. It's about who is not going to screw up our rights..

Clinton was good - except for Brady and a few other things.. Maybe we can find someone who will uphold our rights - not be PC all the time - and really care about what happens to this great country.. We need a Reagan to bring this country back together with one mission..

I've read all that before, I'm not uneducated politically. The GOA says of Fred:

"He is in his own words "against gun control, generally."2 And his voting record shows that to be true, generally. When he voted anti-gun, it was usually to expand federal authority. This is unfortunately consistent with his being a "law and order" conservative (pardon the pun)."

And the NRA calls Fred "a staunch supporter of the second amendment."

I'm okay with his voting record regarding firearms, and that's a first-tier issue for me.

Here's a link to the GOA assessment of Fred, in case you haven't read it:

http://www.gunowners.org/pres08/thompson2.htm

You should also check out the last few pages of the "OMG Ron Paul for President" thread- you'll see that I'm not just a casual political observer.

Oh, I see. He supports gun-control when it "expands federal authority" but opposes it when it is called "gun-control". Well that makes me feel better, I was afraid he was another lying unprincipled politician.

A "Law and order" conservative is what we have now. That means torture, illegal wiretaps, an Attorney General that lies like a rug, and limitless spending to expand the police state. All these are never a good idea, and you can bet the voters will reject any candidate that offers more of the same!

Also your guy is pro Iraq war. I figure that by the time of the general election the US death toll will be close to 6,000 and the cost will be over $1,000,000,000,000*. Any idea how he plans to sell it without getting laughed (or booed) off the stage?

* - It averages $200,000,000 per day.

So why do you have to list that this is a Disclaimer: "I am a Paul supporter" ?

If anything you should list it as a Proclaimer!

Default Re: Fred Thompson For 2008

I know I started off in this thread attacking Fred (and I was wrong in the manner in which I went about it), but do we need to do this back and forth thing in this thread? If we want to debate the merits of one candidate over another, it would be cleaner, easier and more in-line with staying on topic if one of those that are so looking for the debate would start a thread "Fred Thompson VS Ron Paul" or “true debate about all the candidates” or whatever. I'm a staunch supporter of Ron Paul, but let's not troll or derail the FT threads (or any other) they way RP threads have been nearly derailed. I don't make the rules and I act in no official capacity here, but I'd think that FT supporters are as entitled to supporting their candidate without this kind of dialogue as anyone else is.

Just my 2 schillings, do with them as you will.

Thanks, 9-7. I didn't want to have to point out to Broomhandle the whole "off-topic" debate that was raging on a certain other thread.

I've already been reprimanded and threatened with a temporary ban for doing the very same thing that Bizman and Broomhandle are doing, so I have little sympathy for them.

Not that I would mind the debate, mind you, but what's good for the goose....
