Here is something I ran across. I am sure most of you are wondering what the law would include. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:

HEH, too bad that has nothing to do with it, the current AWB sitting in committee was written by Republicans.

I am reminded of the words of President Jackson, who - being an old Indian fighter - was not at ALL pleased with the majority opinion, written by Chief Justice John C. Marshall, in the Cherokee Indians vs. State of Georgia decision of 1831 (locals wanted the Cherokee booted off their land, because gold had been discovered on it - Marshall believed it was a treaty violation to do so).
Jackson replied succinctly - "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it." And thus began, The Trail of Tears. The MORALITY of that decision aside (may be tough for some folks to leave it, I know), but we ALL know how wacky the courts are these days, what with scads of crappy KLIN-TON appointees everywhere, and CONgress holding up MOST of Bush's. Next "ban"/confiscation that comes along, will be met - by MOST, I believe - with the same attitude, as Andrew Jackson's. "Now let them enforce it." WILL America tolerate a "Ruby Ridge," not in faraway rural Idaho, but on EVERY STREET CORNER IN AMERICA? Not for LONG, I think...Bob

The House bill you're looking at was submitted in 2007. It died in committee, never made it to the floor.
The current AWB bill for 2008 was submitted to committee by 3 Republicans, including my congressman Mike Castle. That bill has stalled in committee and will not make it to the floor. So we'll have to wait until next year and someone will try submitting another AWB bill. Can't believe all the folks freaking out on a bill that died over a year ago. |
