Christie (NJ) on guns and other items in townhall
Later when discussing gun rights in the Garden State when someone asked for certain statutes restricting guns be rolled back, Christie offered: "If you really want to change those laws in New Jersey, send me a Republican Legislature.
When the questioner referred to gun rights as "God given rights," Christie responded: "No rights are given you to you by government, all rights our rights are given to us by God and government is supposed to protect and administer those rights, they don't establish them." The audience applauded the governor's answer.
Christie also told voters to understand "elections have consequences," and if people elect presidents like Obama, they'll be subject to Democratic agendas and "different philosophical approaches," he argued.

So in other words, he's not a leader he's a follower. That's very convenient, because talk is cheap.
I have no reason to cut Christie any slack, but we do have to realize that times and attitudes change. Back then there were a lot more people that believed those military type firearms were just cheap surplus garbage that couldn't really be used for anything except settling ghetto scores. The stuff was cheap (how times have changed), you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it, and it was unsuitable for hunting. None of which was true or even relevant, of course, but that's what my father said. Also, attitudes toward the Second Amendment have changed as well, becoming more principled.

Re: Christie (NJ) on guns and other items in townhall
It appears he's giving a lame excuse as an "out" for support of firearms.... blaming NJ citizens and pointing the finger at Democrats. I'd respect him a tad more if he followed that up with "NJ gun laws are horrible/worst in the USA and they have done nothing and I'm working on repealing these horrible laws...."
But he won't, unless there's some sort of dessert with that "bill"."I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." Thomas Jefferson
