This is ridiculous. The word "Ban" should never be associated with firearms. I'm sick of this crap "the government is able to restrict the 2nd amendment reasonably". They should not be restricting any amendment period!

they are grandfathered:

Quote:
`(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to the possession or transfer of any semiautomatic assault weapon otherwise lawfully possessed under Federal law on the date of the enactment of this subsection.
Quote:
`(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to the possession or transfer of any large capacity ammunition feeding device otherwise lawfully possessed on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection.

actually, the firearms listed in appendix A are those that are specifically exempted from the ban. also, in general the ban does not cover:

Quote:
`(B) any firearm that--

`(i) is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action;
as far as i can see this is the exact same ban as the clinton AWB ban.

obviously, still something to be fought against with everything we have.

Not much chance of getting this enacted with less than 6 months before this Legislative session ends in Dec 2008.

We also currently have a PA house and Senate bill much more restrictive than this federal bill. HB 30 & SB 48 read details here.
http://acslpa.org/n-legislative/anti...ry_3_25_08.htm

UNLESS something really bad happens to give a knee jerk reaction to cause enactment, ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN in this short of time.

All bets are off IF someone like Jimmy Shifflett gets the blame for killing lots of people as suggested in this fictional book.

This is a excellent read BTW and more than half of the book is on line and deals with "creating" the knee jerk reaction that would be required.

If this sounds like it has a chance of passing I will certainly be buying something that would be prohibited, even if it means having to buy it on credit. A bit of interest paid is worth sticking it to the stupid laws.

What bugs me about it is that Bush mentioned years ago that he would support a renewal of the AWB if a bill made it to his desk.

Just curious but how does one prove that a firearm was purchased prior to the ban. I am guessing that the assumption by a LEO would be to seize and arrest first, then sort things out. (worse than OC situations)

I didn't have any firearms that would have fit this criteria during the previous ban. I have several now. My main concern would be my SAR2 which was a FTF transfer from a friend I work with. I don't have anything to prove when I bought it. Everything else went through my local FFL.
